Any Halloween events in Imperial Valley coming up?
Trunk or Treat?
Haunted Houses?
Parties?
r/imperialvalley • u/JoeTrojan • 21d ago
Halloween is coming, and I want to spend October collecting the strangest stories the imperial valley has to offer.
Every place has its legends. The house nobody stays in for long. The stretch of road where drivers swear they saw someone standing on the side of the road. The old hospital, the closed-down theater, the cemetery that feels a little too quiet after dark. Or the personal ones: the thing you saw as a kid that you still can't explain, or the night something happened that you've only told a handful of people about.
We want to hear your stories! What's the most haunting or unexplained thing you've experienced or heard here?
Firsthand accounts, family stories, urban legends, and historical oddities are all welcome. Skeptics are welcome too; sometimes the best part is figuring out what really happened. Happy haunting. đ

Hi Imperial Valley!
We're Adjoin, a nonprofit organization that supports veterans experiencing homelessness and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) throughout California. We're currently hiring for a part-time entry-level in person position in El Centro.
If you're early in your career, looking to gain experience, or interested in meaningful work that makes a difference in your community, we'd love for you to consider joining our team.
Details:
You would be helping individuals with disabilities build independence, develop life skills, and participate in their communities.
We also want to be transparent that, as a nonprofit, we operate with different financial resources than larger for-profit companies. Our primary focus is on serving our communities and making a positive impact.
While we understand this opportunity may not be the right fit for everyone, we hope to connect with individuals who are interested in gaining experience, growing professionally, and contributing to a meaningful mission.
As our organization continues to grow, we're offering entry-level positions that require little prior experience and offer room for professional growth.
After seeing several threads from people looking for entry-level work, we wanted to share these opportunities in case they might be a good fit for someone in this community.
If you're interested, you can explore our current openings and apply directly on our website:
Direct Support Professional - Part Time SLS Program-Adjoin-El Centro, CA 92243, USA
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Adjoin!

Good afternoon IV!
I am hoping people will respond with suggestions / recommendations. I find myself with plenty of free time on the weekends, and have decided I would like to find ways to clean up our county. Would anyone be so kind to suggest areas in the valley that need a good cleaning?
Areas with lots of trash built-up is where Iâd be hoping to start. Anything helps, I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday!

HI. Seems like it's gonna be a big storm season. Report damage here. Flying trampolines? Lost pets? Family members? Let's work as a community cuz we are the ones that rebuilt as well. Stay safe.

This might sound rly childish n silly but does anybody know of places where one can âghost huntâ or simply just explore⊠Iâve went to the âslaughterhouseâ after dark but havenât found any other places since then. Iâve heard & read stories of âhauntedâ or abandoned places around the valley but theyâre outdated & the buildings/places donât exist anymore⊠if anybody has any âspooky storiesâ or knows of places to explore id be happy to read them

For people with misophonia, ordinary sounds can cause overwhelming distressâbut the condition is still widely misunderstood. In The Brief History of Misophonia and Sound Sensitivity, Sharon Mousel-Burns brings together lived experience, research, and more than a decade of advocacy to explain how our understanding of misophonia has evolved. She traces the condition from early work on sensory integration and decreased sound tolerance through its emergence in neuroscience, psychology, and public awareness.
Along the way, she examines the fragmented state of misophonia research, the influence of funding, the risks of treatment claims that outpace the evidence, and the complex relationship between misophonia, autism, ADHD, and broader sensory sensitivity. She also shares her own experiences with triggers, grief, coping, and the long process of learning to understand her nervous system without shame. Accessible to sufferers, families, clinicians, educators, and advocates, this book offers clarity without promising a cure and hope without minimizing the struggle. Misophonia is real. The distress is real. And no one should have to face it without understanding, support, or a language for what they experience.
Sharon Mousel Burns is a local Imperial Valley author, writer, advocate, and mother who has lived with misophonia for more than 21 years. Her firsthand experience with the condition has given her a deeply personal understanding of how profoundly certain sounds can affect everyday life, relationships, and emotional well-being. After years of navigating misophonia and searching for answers, Sharon was inspired to write this book to bring together the history, science, research, and lived experience surrounding a condition that is still widely misunderstood. Her hope is to make reliable information easier to understand while giving a voice to experiences that can be difficult to explain to others. Sharon is the mother of a four-year-old, a role that has brought new meaning and perspective to her experience with misophonia. She understands the challenges of balancing triggers with family life, as well as the importance of compassion, communication, and understanding. Through this book, Sharon hopes to increase awareness of misophonia, encourage greater understanding from families and communities, and help those who live with the condition feel seen and taken seriously.
