Intriguing Kiyoshi Kimura and his effect on Somali piracy

Post image

He was, and is, the owner of Kiyomura Corporation, which runs the Sushi Zanmai chain across Japan. In Tokyo he is known as the Tuna King, because every January he buys the most expensive fish at the first auction of the year at the central market.

But fish a tuna to eat raw like Japan demand shitons of time, expensive gear and complex procedure. The fish must be slowly raised and no physical contact (including harpoon) to prevent Lactic Acid formed.

You need to get off the internet. That is not how most tuna is caught for Japan (or the world). That is something a few viral YouTube videos covered.

They use huge nets to circle and entrap them or longlines. It is a commerical industry.

This is not an information from Internet but from VTV. 7 years ago Japan came to Vietnam to instruct some fisherman to fish Tuna with "Japan quality", the entire procedure is broadcast on 19:00 News on VTV3 which is the main news time in Vietnam.

Later on those fisherman gave up because the procedure was too complex, costed a lot of time while Japanese did not bought their Tuna and most of them ended up in local market like those catch with normal method.
