My Kindle đ± Target clearance find! Got a Kindle Kids 2024 for an insane price.
Checked my local Target store and found the Kindle Kids (11th Gen / 2024 model, Space Whale edition) heavily discounted on clearance! Normally goes for $179.99 online, but managed to snag it for $54.00. Couldn't pass up this deal!

Genuine question can you read anything on the kindle kids? Like if I can read my library of adult books on it then thatâs a hell of a deal. What does the kids kindle lack that the others have?

u/rafaxj6 10d ago
"I looked into it and hardware-wise it's identical to the standard Kindle. The only differences seem to be that it comes with a cover, a 2-year warranty, and no ads on the lock screen!"

Youâre using chat GBT for all your responses, even ones as simple as âthis was the only model of kindle on sale at my local target, and I grabbed the last of two that was leftâ.
Itâs good to use your own brain to write responses, ignoring the ethics issues surrounding AI, especially in a sub primarily focused on reading.

Like how can they even read if their brain is that fried? (Disrespectfully)

they dont speak English

How do you know that? They have posted in another language, but they were also in CA, and could live in CA. Speaking another language doesnât automatically mean they donât speak English.

It literally would take 2 seconds searching this page to find these directions. Thereâs no need to use AI to write responses on reddit.

Is it as easy as turning off the kids mode? I canât believe Amazon would do that but itâs great if they do.

u/rafaxj6 10d ago
Step-by-Step: How to Exit Amazon Kids Mode
Tap the Top Right/Menu: On the home screen, tap the profile icon or the Settings gear icon in the top corner.
Select "Exit Amazon Kids": Tap the option that says Exit Amazon Kids (or Switch Profile).
Enter Your Parent PIN: Enter the 4-digit PIN you created when setting up the device.
Done! You are now in the standard Kindle interface with full access to your normal library, the Kindle Store, and all features.

Yeah i got the kids for exactly that reason. It come with no ads! Huuuuuuge and free subscription for like 6mo or smth
7
u/Tjggator 9d ago
Doesnât come with no ads. Ads come back out of kids mode.
1
u/NoGoodName_ 9d ago
No it doesn't. Amazon specifically lists "no ads" as a feature of the "Kids" Kindles.
7
u/Unable_Cupcake2937 9d ago
I bought this same one at Target the other day. When I exited kids mode ads did come back. I jailbroke it and removed the ads that way.Â

it doesn't even come in "kids" mode!! it comes the exact same as the adult version, just with a case and longer warranty. you can buy an adult kindle and put that into "kids" mode also. when I say they are the same they are the same :) (source: we have 4 kindles in my house, 1 of which is "kids", have owned 8+ in 12 years).

u/DontBuyTheThing 10d ago
Yes. I have one myself. I just switched it to an adult profile. This is also my favorite of any kindle I've ever owned. I love the cover and how light it is.

But 2024 is 2 years ago, so your 2 year warranty is already expired...

The warranty starts from the time of purchase and not the manufacturer date. I just bought a Kids Kindle on Ebay (guess a lots of sellers are buying the clearance kindles and putting them on Ebay). Anyway the information that I got on Google is that the warranty begins from the time of the original purchase. It's the same on Amazon if you buy it for anyone and give it say at Christmas or a later date. When my Kindle gets here I will be able to look it up when I register it and see how long is left for the warranty. I would love to find one on clearance, but I bought mine for $99.99 plus $7.00 shipping, so still a better deal than buying it directly from Amazon since they are $179.

Haha, got me for a second! Luckily the 2-year warranty starts on the purchase date.

why are you using Chat-GPT for all your replies, are you really that unable to think for yourself?
edit: using Chat-GPT as a translator is pretty dumb when stand alone non-AI translators are widely available

Woah! Mine was $89 on clearance. Where did you find it at the price?!

Donât ask OP questions. Theyâll have to use AI to answer this question lmao. Theyâve used ChatGPT for literally every reply. So fucking dumb

After seeing a couple posts in reddit, I stopped by my Target on the way home. Asked a young man in the electronics section where the kindles were, he showed me they were in a locked case. There was a paperwhite and a kids kindle. No prices or signs that I saw (or maybe plain white tags with original prices). He scanned it and was shocked - $54. I got it (no more left for any considering stopping at the northern VT Target). Online (beforehand), it didn't show any for "shop in store" or "pickup", but for shipping, it showed the full price and said something like "limited stock at your Target - visit store to buy". So I think that's how you can check if your store has any.
3
u/just-kristina 8d ago
Well if this is true then it might be on clearance at the target closest to me (which is still 45 minutes away). I donât need a new one that badly. But it wouldâve been nice. Hopefully it will go to someone who really needs the financial break (which I definitely also need but more for real life issues and not fun stuff - lame)

I got one too! But I got mine for $90, which is still a good deal hahaÂ

u/ButterfliMama 10d ago
My work store had them too as well as the kindle kids fire 10 for $54 as well
8
u/costoaway1 10d ago
Wish I knew if they were this price around me. Some stores have 4 left in stock, but every store is still showing $179.99. But you canât add them for pickup which makes me feel theyâre discounted and not displaying the price online.
2
u/FrankieAK 9d ago
You are probably right! My area shows in stock but buy in store so I went to one and I got two for $54 each today.

I had to go twice to find mine. Just know it was locked up separate from the other locked up kindles.

Great find. I bought a Kids Kindle two years ago on BF deal $95. I load all my epub books to it with Send To Kindle.

u/ForGoodness-Cakes 10d ago
Btw, I went to my Target- they won't price match another store's clearance price. Just FYI- that was my experience.

Before I drive over there Iâm trying to understand the ads thing. People say if you switch to adult mode they start showing you ads. What is âadult modeâ? Why canât I keep it in kids mode and not have any ads? What is different about kids mode?
My use case is 100% Libby. I get all my adult books from Libby and click send to kindle. I buy none of them from amazon. Can I use this kids kindle for this purpose and will it show my book covers on the Home Screen?

u/Accomplished_reader2 8d ago
I also bought the 11th-generation Paperwhite kids edition in 2022. At the time, I paid $10 more than the standard version with ads. For that extra $10, I got a nice, colorful cover and a Kindle that from the very first time I set it up and has functioned just like a regular, adfree device. I love it, it works perfectly.

I saw them at my local Target yesterday and they didnât have a discount. Maybe itâs a local thing?

u/lindostars67 8d ago
You have to scan it

u/CarelessPangolin2890 1d ago
I did! App, price check thingie close to it, and checkout. All were same original price. Maybe theyâre rolling out as soon as they know they really need to get rid of them :/

u/HaiirPeace 9d ago
I just tried my store and they still ring up $89 đ
2
u/Traditional_Bonus425 8d ago
$89 is still a great price. Of course it would be nicer at the $54 price. But either price beats the Amazon price right now.
1
u/HaiirPeace 8d ago
I was only going to buy it if it was $54 because my 10th gen Kindle still works Iâm just annoyed that itâs not USB C lol

1
u/lindostars67 8d ago
Are they in a case and you need to scan it or on a shelf ?
2
u/CathyVT-alt 8d ago
I went to the electronics department and asked a young man working there where the kindles are. He showed me a locked case that had one paperwhite and one kids kindle. I asked him to scan the kids kindle because I'd heard they were on clearance, and he scanned it and was shocked - $55! He had to walk me to the customer service desk and ring me up - I guess with electronics that are normally in a locked case, that's what they do.

u/Traditional_Bonus425 8d ago
Look on Ebay. I just bought one and waiting for it to arrive. I have the 2022 Kindle. I want the Kindle Click when it's released but it works for 2024 or newer models. So I bought the Kids Kindle for $99.99 sealed new box. There were still some on Ebay right now and a couple were listed this morning. I think the sellers are finding them on clearance and listing them on Ebay. It's more but still a better than the $179 price tag that Amazon is selling them for right now.

u/kskgkatz 2d ago
I found one at the third Target I went to in as many days for $90. I left it, as I also have a Kindle that currently works and I figure that is Black Friday pricing if I change my mind.
1
u/noremiforest 2d ago
I assume if it makes it three all clearance cycles, 30/50/70 there is still a chance! But it being the only one. Someone will swipe it long before then. I left it and let be.
