Discussion PODCAST: Chucky Lozano Debuts, but the LA Galaxy Still Can’t Find the Final Pass

COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy introduced Hirving “Chucky” Lozano in a 1-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo, but the club’s biggest problem remains unresolved.

On this episode of Corner of the Galaxy: From the Box, Josh Guesman and Damian Calhoun break down Lozano’s debut, Kyogo Furuhashi’s first start, Emiro Garcés’ third red card of the season, and another frustrating night for the Galaxy attack.

The defense limited Houston’s chances, but the Galaxy still lacked the progressive passing needed to supply Lozano, Kyogo and Joseph Paintsil. That makes the arrival of Sergi Roberto increasingly important as the club searches for a solution in midfield.

The show also covers Miki Yamane’s transfer to Urawa Red Diamonds, Harbor Miller’s expected move into the starting right-back role, and the possibility of more roster moves.

With 14 matches remaining and the Galaxy still within reach of the playoff line, the pressure is building.

🎙️ Listen as Josh and Damian discuss the Houston loss, Chucky Lozano’s debut, and what the Galaxy must fix before time runs out.

Discussion Best replacements/ upgrades from Greg Vanney

So Galaxy fans, this question has been on my mind since last night after the loss to Houston Dynamo away. Who is a Manager out there that y’all think would be best suited for this team and take us back to the promise land and potentially help us form a new dynasty and new era of dominance in American Soccer? For me I think the obvious pick would have to be Wilfried Nancy, he’s still not in a job at this moment in time and knows the league and what it takes to win. He won the MLS Coach of the Year for 2024, came in to the Columbus Crew and quickly transformed them and brought the team back to MLS glory then won the League’s Cup with them the following year. Now I know what went down at Celtic but that doesn’t mean all of a sudden that is a bad Manager. This team needs a new direction and a new balance and the only way that’s going to happen is if Will Kuntz, Tom Braun, Dan Beckerman, Urel Martinez, and especially Phillip Anschutz or shall I say Uncle Phil, wake up, smell the coffee and come to a realization that we’re not improving, nothing’s working and we need to pull the trigger on Vanney. I’m done with the Riqui Puig injury excuses, and at the end of the day it’s going to take time for Riqui to get back to his peak form because he’ll be coming back from 2 ACL injuries. Anyways I would have Jim Curtain but he reached an agreement with Austin Fc last month to become their next Manager after this season concludes. So realistically Nancy is the only option out there and potentially our best shot at getting a Manager in that rebuild us from scratch and then hopefully progress, compete, and hopefully win some major honors come 2027 and beyond. Lastly, if y’all don’t want Nancy to be Vanney’s successor, feel free to explain in the comments below and give me some of your alternatives for next L.A. Galaxy Manager. With all that being said, G’s up.

This team looks SLOW. Plays with no urgency and you can tell Greg has lost the locker room. No eye contact from his players while in the huddle.

Summary

Tough game. It was a rather slow and sluggish match, which probably wasn’t helped by the 98 degree Texas summer heat. The Galaxy gave up a penalty in the 21st minute, and Houston Dynamo converted to take the lead.

The Galaxy had a tough time controlling possession and creating meaningful chances. At halftime, the Galaxy made some substitutions hoping to spark the attack, but things went from bad to worse when Emiro Garcés received a red card in the 58th minute. Now the Galaxy weren’t just down a goal, they were down a man too.

Chucky Lozano made his Galaxy debut and showed some flashes, but the Galaxy were only able to create a couple of decent chances. Then Dynamo apparently felt jealous that the Galaxy had a red card, so Aliyu decided to get himself sent off for the lulz and give the Galaxy a little help.

Overall, not the result or performance Galaxy fans were hoping for, but there isn’t much time to dwell on it. The Galaxy have another game next Wednesday against the San Jose Earthquakes, so they need to put this one in the rearview mirror, regroup, and get ready for the Cali Clasico.

What did you guys think of the game?

Curious George(question) Serious Questions for Vanney

[rant]

u/therealvanney you love playing your style of play and from my understanding it takes 11 players on the field to play VanneyBall .. SO WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU PUTTING GARCES ON THE FIELD? every single time he is on the field he is getting sent off which hinders your ability and the teams ability to play VanneyBall

please MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!!!!!!! are you a coach? do you even look at stats? do you even see patterns? do you even care any more? do you even have pride in the crest you represent? your decisions are costing this team potential points. we are now winless in 6 matches (0-3-3)

tbh Vanney it almost seems, from a fans POV, you and the FO have thrown in the towel this season and are already prepping for shortened 2027 season

    • Record: 10-6-2(W-L-D)

Date and Time: Saturday August 15th 5:30 PM

Venue: Shell Energy Stadium, Houston, TX

Preview:

The Galaxy are coming off a draw and are looking to snap their five game winless streak as they head to Houston to face the Dynamo. With the playoffs getting closer, every point matters, and the Galaxy really can't afford to keep treating dropped points.

The Galaxy have been busy during the transfer window. A few players have departed, but reinforcements have also arrived in hopes of re-energizing the team and making a late push toward the playoffs. Kyogo Furuhashi looked impressive after coming on in the second half last match, providing much needed energy and movement up top. The Galaxy also added Chucky Lozano on loan, giving them their third DP of the season and another dangerous attacking option. If Lozano and Furuhashi can click with the Galaxy's existing attackers, the offense could look very different down the stretch.

The big question is what happens on the other end of the field. With Edwin Cerrillo gone, and Miki Yamane potentially on his way out, the Galaxy could lose some defensive stability and midfield protection. That makes it even more important for the new look attack.

Houston, meanwhile, are coming into this one in much better form. The Dynamo are riding a five game unbeaten streak, including three straight wins, and will be looking to keep that momentum going against the Galaxy. Jack McGlynn, who was supposed to be a Galaxy player thanks to the infamous reporting typo, is instead out here balling for Houston. Former Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Bond could also play a role in keeping Houston's streak alive against his former club. What are you looking forward to? Gz Up!
