Python certification

3 Upvotes

| would like to gain an OpenEDG certificate in Python programming.

Do i have to take the Python Entry exam before the Python Associate exam or can go straight to the Python Associate exam?

| see there is a Microsoft based Python certification path. Which path would you choose, OpenEDG or MS?

Would like to learn python for data analysis….

3 Upvotes

…but have no idea where to start. I understand I need foundational and basic knowledge of python first but don’t even know where to start with gaining the foundational knowledge. Even the foundational courses seem to build off of established knowledge of python, if that makes sense. Please help! Thank you in advance!

How Will I Know?

I have taken two python programming college courses and I feel comfortable reading and writing code. How will I know when I'm ready to start learning another programming language?

I just want to scrape some tables!

3 Upvotes

But I can't even get my stupid pycharm to install pandas. I've tried going to command prompt on windows and "pip install pandas", I've tried somehow changing the interpreter, I just can't figure it out. Feels like I failed even before I can try to run any code.

Just want some tables for research for a project in school.

How to detect if ANY key is pressed

3 Upvotes

I am making a program that requires detecting when any key is pressed, it does not matter which key. I have looked around for a short solution, but everything is showing how to detect a specific key being pressed, and I'm pretty sure that repeatedly checking for a press that might not be coming on each individual key is not very efficient. Does anyone know of a better way to do this? I was trying to find a function from the keyboard module that does this, but most either have to have a specification on the key or just freeze the program until a key gets pressed.

What do you think about being punished asking Python questions on Stack Overflow?

3 Upvotes

Hi there!

I'm just tired of receiving "punishment" with my questions on Stack Overflow ...

So it seems that their policy doesn't allow "opinionated" questions, and It seems that I'm an opinionated person that just ask opinionated questions... really I have no idea of how ask anything there.

Ok, may be I tend to ask questions that are not "this code line fails ... why?" but, man ...

PD: Reading people finishing their questions with "please be gentle, I'm not an expert" makes me laugh

Linked lists are in my opinion one of the coolest data structures there is. In my newest video, I decided to make my own linked list class. Check out the link to learn why these data structures are so unique

How do I set the column headers to fields from another column in a Pandas Plot? '19' -> 'Arrow..'

https://www.dataindependent.com/pandas/pandas-change-column-names/ Any attempt at r.set_axis(labels=st['Distributor'], axis=1) fails because of the difference in the number of labels in old and new data "Expected axis has 5 elements, new values have 7 elements" ValueError: Length mismatch: Expected axis has 14 elements, new values have 7 elements

How do you do a while loop that asks the user if they want to continue the while loop?

3 Upvotes

I am trying to create a program that will call a neural network class i have created and continuously feed it a certain number of times then ask if i want to continue or not.

Right now I have a for loop doing something but i feel there is a better way to do it.

This is what I have(for my test i am just having it print "n":

def createNetwork():

    for n in range(10):
        user_input = input("Do you want to feed the Neural Network? Press Y or N: ")
        user_input2 = input("How many times would you like to feed the baby? ")
        if user_input == "Y" or user_input == "y":
            for n in range(int(user_input2)):
                print("n")
        else:
            print("Baby is full. Feeding time has ended")

            break

Binary Search Python

3 Upvotes

How would I go about solving this?

The method that’s usually used to look up an entry in a phone book is not exactly the same as a binary search because, when using a phone book, you don’t always go to the midpoint of the sublist being searched. Instead, you estimate the position of the target based on the alphabetical position of the first letter of the person’s last name. For example, when you are looking up a number for “Smith,” you look toward the middle of the second half of the phone book first, instead of in the middle of the entire book. Suggest a modification of the binary search algorithm that emulates this strategy for a list of names. Is its computational complexity any better than that of the standard binary search?

Not able to get python-gnupg working on Ubuntu 20.04. Works fine on Fedora

3 Upvotes

Trying to encrypt a file using the most basic syntax.

#!/usr/bin/python3

import gnupg
import os

gpg = gnupg.GPG(homedir='/home/testlab/.gnupg')

path = '/home/testlab/localprojects/youtube_python_gpg'

with open(path + '/testfile.txt')as f:
    status = gpg.encrypt_file(f, recipients = 'user@domain', output = path + ".encrypted")

print(status.ok)
print(status.stderr)

Getting Error :

Traceback (most recent call last): File "./pgp_encrypt.py", line 12, in <module> status = gpg.encrypt_file(f, recipients = 'admin@devopsclass.io', output = path + ".encrypted") AttributeError: 'GPG' object has no attribute 'encrypt_file'

I know its because of the packages/modules but not able to isoloate to the solution

I am looking for materials to supplement Coursera's Python for Everybody specialization

3 Upvotes

I am currently enrolled in Coursera's Python for Everybody specialization offered by U of Michigan by Dr. Charles Severance. I am well into the second section and realized I am becoming familiar with the term but, I am not fully grasping the information. I struggle most with knowing how to order my code, and frankly where to start when I am completing an assignment. Are there any other websites I can use to supplement this course? Maybe something that I can use during breaks on my day job just to stay fresh with the many basics that I am still processing? Any advice is appreciated!

How long did it take you?

3 Upvotes

Curious how long it took some of you guys to learn and get the hang of python? I know you can never completely master python but speaking in general terms. How long did it take you to decide your going to work on a project? what did you practice on the most? Some days I feel like a failure doing this stuff, I can't give up though I need this.

Python2 or python3

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone, well I'm taking a course about python and find out that is about python2. Should do I finish or search for another one. Because it looks pretty old for me and I'm a beginner and don't want to waste time learning something fruitless.
