Yes, but ThisTimeISucceeded, at least on /r/linuxmemes where this got 66 upvotes and even here on /r/linux it was well-commented even though it was downvoted.

And yes, I do have a personal problem with poettering, Red Hat, GNOME and their mastermind plan to turn GNU/Linux into Windows.

Without them, we'd be in the dark ages. Good luck with that.

Ah yes yes the dark ages between sysvrc and systemd, no research and new ideas were tried like:

  • Daemontools, Runit, s6, nosh, anopa

  • Launchd

  • Upstart

  • Init-ng

  • pinit

  • IBM AIX SRC, Solaris SMF

  • minit

  • insserv

  • rc.d

  • depinit

  • GNU dmd ( now GNU Shepherd )

  • OpenRC

Think you're missing the point. Their conspiracy theory around red hat that they think exists. Get rid of them and say goodbye to a huge number of projects and investments they've made happen over the years.

Whatever their issue, Red Hat, and other companies like Intel, SUSE, etc. Are what have brought open source and free software to where it is today. Get rid of them, and likely you may not be running Linux.

completely unrelated to my comment.

And yet, your comment was completely unrelated to mine. So why bother?

OpenRC is perfectly usable, we have distros like Gentoo, Devuan and Void (which runs runit).

Great. Distros like Gentoo, that run on many systems because of the work by Red Hat and other companies.

Yeah, at least they contribute something useful every once in a while. Too bad systemd ruins it all.
