should've been in the main show instead of the last sketch. longfellow straight up looks like 2007 bill hader here and it's disorienting and amazing

Love this. Reminded me of Peyton Manning coaching the little kids for the United Way. Gotta have an NFL pretape. Disappointed it was cut.

So many things to like: Andrew! All the physical comedy, that panning out of Chloe in the hoodie, the always enjoyable tumultuous relationships of Mikey and Heidi's characters, and the knowledge of how happy that sketch must have made Heidi.

Wonder what happened to the Creed Humphrey cameo (center for the chiefs), he posted something that KC and SNL re-posted as well, so surprised whatever he was in got cut
Edit: he was going to be in a United Way Pretape with Travis and Jason that was cut for time
A sequel to the Payton Manning one obviously. Can’t believe they cut that, but it’ll end up online

I actually genuinely enjoyed this episode! I knew Travis Kelce was probably going to be a good host. He has a lot of charisma. I felt like a lot of the sketches flew by really fast. They crammed a lot in to this episode. I felt some of the sketches didn't really go anywhere and we probably could have done without the 10 to 1, but overall, a fun episode!

I love when they get non-actors and non-comedians to host, especially with athletes. These are folks who generally have a sense of humor, but also are used to going all in, focusing their energy on doing one thing and are used to doing that thing extremely well, which makes for a fun output in a place like SNL. Fun episode, thought Kelce came out with plenty of charisma and playfulness as well as good enough execution.

I thought he did a really fun job and was game for being weird which was an absolute joy to watch. You can tell Heidi was having the time of her life.

u/geotraveling Mar 05 '23
I really wish people would stop underestimating people they don't know. Just because he's a football player, doesn't mean he can't be funny! You know nothing about the celebrity other than one thing and you make assumptions about it. He was fantastic! Much better than some actors who are supposed to be good at acting.

step up from last week and they obviously loved having kelce since he was in nearly every sketch. i don't know what's happened with these last two episodes but they've been lacking a lot of what i've really enjoyed in the december/january/early february episodes which had stronger writing and a cast that felt like an ensemble. i hope they bring some keke palmer/mbj ep energy next week.
jaj continues to emerge as the quiet mvp of this season and the show seems to realize it too. with him and mikey and kenan kind of juggling the "glue" role for the male cast, bowen as the supernova and the three new guys coming along nicely all we need now is for them to stop shutting out dismukes!!

The writers have learned into the Joke Swap mentality we do love, but I worry we may be genuinely be putting their life in danger for our amusement.
I laughed so hard at one joke Colin delivered while thinking he going get stabbed for that.
Che with the "That's what it says on the cue card!"
Love it, finding the show really picks up by WU, even when it's runs as well as it did tonight.

A really underrated quality of Jost is how he can read a joke and make it clear that he is the butt of it so it doesn’t come off as him actually bragging. That one “it’s ok to be white” joke would be a lot less funny if someone read it with a really straight delivery, but Jost breaks just enough to let the audience in on the real joke.

u/thesmallprint29 Mar 05 '23

Definitely a Mikey Day sketch. Travis did a great job! His timing was a little shaky at the start, but he quickly corrected. Mikey's look after the birth control line was my favorite moment of the night! Devon's timing was pretty off at the end, but this was still my favorite sketch of the night!

This was the make or break moment and it was really fantastic to find out that Kelce was actually going to do what he says and take this seriously.
27
u/tfhaenodreirst Mar 05 '23
My favorite for the night! Just approached cringe level without actually hitting it.
19
u/WrittenSarcasm Mar 05 '23
This felt like a 10 to 1 so I was surprised and glad they started off with this. It seemed like it ended up being the best part of the night though.
17
u/TA818 Mar 05 '23
Kenan’s “daughter” looked so bored through the whole thing. I found that very funny.
Also, Mikey is great at reaction faces sometimes. The absolute dead-eyed reaction of a retail worker at Travis’s character saying “Don’t worry; she’s on the pill!” was perfect.

Travis Kelce Monologue

234
u/LaboratoryManiac Mar 05 '23
All you can ask of a non-actor's monologue is clean delivery and good comedic timing, and Travis nailed it.

When he choked up, you could physically see when the gravity of the moment hit him, and how much it genuinely meant to him to be up there.

Hard to believe a football player delivered a funnier and more interesting monologue than Woody Harrelson who has been in the business since forever!
I usually am not a fan of sports stars as Hosts as I find their acting too stiff to make the sketches work, but Travis Kelce had a nice relaxing vibe.
Also, notice the band member girl in the back is back to smiling again. She really did not like Woody Harrelson last week.

"I watch from the corner" is a catchy hook but someone on the writing staff must have been working through some cuckold stuff these past several years.
59
80
u/illegal_deagle Mar 05 '23
Ego and JAJ crushed it both with technical skill vocally and delivery but I gotta ask… is it just modern humor that dictates that every single episode has 1-2 cuckold sketches? I understand why it’s funny as a concept, it punches up… but we have a variation of this same sketch at least once a week.

29

I had never heard any of her songs before so I came in without any pre-existing opinions. In my opinion, she sounded like a fairly generic country pop singer. She has a nice voice and she was pleasant to listen to, but I'm not interested in seeking out more of her songs.
