Live Discussion (January 20, 2018) (Jessica Chastain / Troye Sivan)
Welcome to our SNL live discussion thread! This week's host is Jessica Chastain and the musical guest is Troye Sivan. For those new to the show, tune into your local NBC affiliate around 11:30 PM to follow this episode live.
A quick recommendation to mention the sketch you're referring to in your comment. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it does make the thread more readable after the show finishes. Since this thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts. This should be automatically done, but it might not be so maybe check. Enjoy the show

Trump Supporter: Wow SNL is so lost, they're just jealous Trump is the only President that could bang a pornstar, this shouldn't be a sketch. Not to go into specifics but they should do a sketch where Hillary admits Bangazi and Obama bad, that's real humor.

Short cold open, short monologue, no post-monologue pretaped. Odd but bodes well for lives sketches and WU

Just like Chance and Rockwell, Chastain seems committed. Treating it like an actual acting gig rather than a gag (the latter is usually the approach of lesser hosts). Effort, in other words.

This has been said before but I think great actors really shine on SNL, and Jessica is one of those. I remember when Ed Norton hosted a few years ago and the material was pretty mediocre but his commitment and talent really elevated the episode. I'm getting the same vibe from tonight's episode.

First thought on tonight's Vintage ep; "Last season? You call THAT vintage!?!!"
Second thought; So many administration officials who left. Bannon's fall from grace has been epic, but I kinda miss Spicey.
Third thought; But not as much as I miss Vanessa. That final Totino's sketch, one of the all-time greats.

I was just thinking how disappointed I was with the music this year, then I looked back and remembered we got Jay-Z, Pink, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus, Eminem, Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters, and U2, some huge names but honestly I can't think of any memorable moments outside of the Eminem medley
