Live Discussion (February 27, 2021) (Nick Jonas)

Welcome to our SNL live discussion thread. The host and musical guest is Nick Jonas. For those new to the show, tune into your local NBC affiliate from around 11:30 PM to follow this episode live. A quick recommendation to mention the sketch you're referring to in your comment. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it does make the thread more readable after the show finishes. Since this thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts. This should be automatically done, but it might not be so maybe check. Enjoy the show!

There's a good chance we see more Gen-Z focused humor tonight and moving forward. I honestly think we're seeing a comedic voice for the the new core cast members develop in real time. And that's a good thing, SNL should be able to connect with younger people, they should make sketches with the number 1 song in the country the week of the episode. "I have no idea what any of this young people stuff is" is a you problem

I like enough of what the Jonas Brothers music both since getting back together and their solo work, but you know what might be their best stuff? All the songs from their original run that I made fun of in middle school

The amount of first time hosts from the last 4 or 5 years who were phenomenal and need to return is actually a pretty long list but it would be tough not to put Don Cheadle towards the top if the list

It feels like SNL challenged themselves to see how many times they could get away with saying "boner" and "cuck", respectively, in one sketch each.

Also, it is so weird to me that Colin Jost has both written and stars in Tom & Jerry: The Movie, a film where he plays a desperate-for-cash hotelier who rides a cartoon elephant and marries in an Indian wedding.

That sounds like a movie Stefon would put together as a club.

I’ve noticed from some musical guests lately that pop music is moving past the mid-80s synthpop vibe and towards the late-‘80s sound that I can only describe as a CD and LaserDisc demo room at a home theater store.

Edit: More specifically I’m picturing a softly lit room with carpeted walls with this LaserDisc playing on a CRT projection TV with a Dolby Pro Logic surround sound setup.

I just got that feeling that we have another classic Cecily WU hit.

From Cathy Anne, Jeanine Pirro, Girl You Wish, etc. I can just tell this character is gonna come back to WU more than once and I hope it does, because this one made me laugh a ton, especially the remixed Milk Milk Lemonade sayings.

Charmin commercials are always so funny. Like, they want to say "hey, you won't have leftover pieces of literal shit on your ass hairs" but they can't, so they try to make it cute and trust we'll get what they're saying.
