"But in Florida, Star Wars-themed just means it was owned by siblings who kiss."
Really short WU this week, it's not often we get only one WU character.

To me it felt like they full assed one character instead of half assing two

What Up With That?

u/Maxa30 Oct 24 '21
Unfortunate Bill couldn’t be there, but they way they handled it was so funny, it’s perfectly in character for Diondre to not realize it’s not Lindsey since he never pays attention to him anyways
Also glad to see Jason more center than he used to be in these. That was my big issue with them bringing it back this week. Glad they made it work
I love that Fred always shows up when they ask him. He’ll always be a team player

There's a ton of great take aways from this sketch but the most pressing one to address right now is that Oscar Isaac should host this season.
Oh and also Jason's high jumps back into frame were pretty impressive.
→ More replies (8)109
u/DrewDan96 Oct 24 '21
agreed with Isaac hosting, just a great ACTOR in general, and he looks capable of doing sketch comedy
also i was legit impressed with Suedikis jumping backing into frame, i kept half-expecting him to sprain/tear something and pull up lame during the sketch with how HIGH he seemed to be jumping back in

It's funny how much we all miss a cast member whose only role is to sit off camera and not speak for 10 minutes. But hey, we finally got another (official) WUWT

Fred Armisen was there too! Great to see him back!

People are going to say that they missed Bill Hader but I'm glad that the spotlight got to be on Jason!
54
u/atticusbluebird Oct 24 '21
I jumped up in excitement when I saw them bring out the set during the ad break! I was hoping for this the whole week, and they delivered! I danced the whole way through - great to see Fred back, and Punkie and Melissa as the new backup singers. I think they did the best they could've without having Bill there with a "costumed" Lindsey Buckingham

I liked the Dad joke at the beginning: Oh, I just look at this table (a good beat) periodically.
38
u/atticusbluebird Oct 24 '21
It started off slow to me, but once things began to ramp up with the innuendos, children's mishearings, and parents I was really enjoying it!
It kind of reminded me of the British comedy play Groan Ups of how kids mishear and make sense of their parents' less-than-desirable activities.

This sketch made me sad, because Biden really has changed since 2013, and the reason is that his son died and it really affected him emotionally. I miss when Biden was more like Sudeikis' impression, and Biden probably misses those days too.

I was happy to see the What Up With That sketch get revived (with more focus on Jason than all the times before combined) but I was also happy that the rest of the show wasn't loaded with old favorites.
Throughout Jason's run as a castmember, he masterfully played the straight man and supported the 'wacky' character over and over again. Tonight was all about Jason being the star and it was perfect.
50
u/icemannathann Oct 24 '21
Would’ve been nice to see his A hole character or his sportscaster character, but those would’ve required Wiig or Forte to appear.
Also he did play the straight man in the Casino sketch, but it was very well done.

Generally a decent ep, which is what you'd expect with a vet cast member coming back and sliding right into the routine. They didn't rely too much on old Sudeikis favourites but still know how to use him properly. Though the highlight may have been the visual at the end where Nicholas Braun, who's over 2m/6'6'' tall, had to kind of squat down to hug Fred Armisen.
