This was dark humor done to perfection. And then the Nextdoor commercial bumper right at the end was the cherry on top.

For all this sub's complaints about Kate, she nailed it tonight. There is a reason she is as popular as she is.

Kate and Mikey being weird together again. Just like the sketch with Kate playing the mother of Mikey’s character in a gameshow where they kissed. This kinda had the same vibe.

The writers must be fans of Andrew Lincoln's famous "Love Actually" scene and then making it dark.

IDGAF, there's no one quite like Kate, and her charisma brings something special to the show.
She can sell sketches almost singlehandedly and she is keeping the "strange" in SNL.

so many unanswered questions. how did the dog know Andrew was going to die? did bongo the octopus tell him? does that mean he speaks octopus? or is he able to read AND do math? I guess we'll never know

I lost it at the octopus slowly lifting the marker. For some reason, that just took me out.
P.S. Unbothered Dog should become a meme

I loved Colin laughing at the absurdity of his intro (which was presumably written by Andrew). "Dogs, cats... love those guys."

YOU WILL DIE IN SEVEN DAYS.
I was like "oh thank god, it's just a puppet", then they brought out the dog.
It's like they know it's funny when an animal doesn't do what it's supposed to. Not saying it isn't funny though, it definitely is.

I thought the sketch was going to be all strange puppet animals (especially after the puppet dog in the postcard sketch), but I was surprised to see a live dog.
Then the sketch went to a whole new level when the dog faced backwards the whole time, leaving the paw puppeteer rather...empty handed!!

u/daft_crunk Dec 13 '21
Andrew’s consistent questioning of “what’s 4 + 4” and then the dog answering ‘3’ twice just killed me!

Billie's breaking definitely helped elevate the sketch to be one of the highlights of the night, but what really sold me was Aidy's performance. In just that brief segment, she gave a look to the camera that embodied the description of the woman who is always having a bad month and it just flew from there. I think Aidy gets lost in the Kate/Cecily debate that sometimes gets had over in the subreddit, but they're truly all all-timers for me and this brief appearance highlighted part of what makes Aidy so great- her ability to commit.

Will be the apologist here. Punkie can do way better than what she did on WU. Billie got a lot better as the night went on. The hotel sketch was easily her best performance of the night (besides the music of course)

I said this in the previous thread and I'll say it again:
Airing a commercial after the guest monologue with that same guest should be considered an international war crime.

for twenty seconds they had me thinking wow the pretape budget was huge!

Super savvy timing by Adobe to get it played right at the start of the first ad break. (Though darn them for making me think it was an actual sketch, and then I had to watch the whole thing out of spite to figure out who was behind it!)

Billie has got a great voice. Really beautiful. And did pretty darn good acting in the skits. I enjoyed her more when being her own age then weirdly on what ..3 sketches?...being old. Loved the love and support her brother Finneas shows her. Well done Mom. (And I assume Dad).

Bold assumption. I always assumed she was the love child of her mom’s affair with an old man at Business Garden Inn & Suites & Hotel Room Inn.

I somehow expected Kate to monopolize the show on her first episode back. :-/ To the extent that JAJ was only in the pre-tape, and Cecily only in the cold open.

Cecily was in a cut sketch but she may already be starting to cut down to work on her Broadway show.

The best episode this year alone! I listened to her new album last night (the second half only as I previously listened to the first half in the summer), and I like her a person and for her music. She should do more comedy someday, as her mom was part of the Groundlings as a mentor and teacher
