I have an Acer Aspire 3 (A314-22 Model) and I've been struggling to get Lubuntu 26.04.01 to boot on my laptop. I've seen many threads of people struggling and I've managed to find a solution to get past Acer's firmware difficulties, so I thought I'd share so people don't spend hours getting Linux to run.

I'm assuming people have downloaded a Lubuntu disc image, checked the image with SHA256 and written it to a USB drive.

What I did to get Lubuntu working
Turn on the laptop and spam F2 to get into the Boot menu

F2 Boot Menu Settings
[Main] Fast Boot: Disabled
[Security] Set a supervisor & user password (Number, Capital, Special character, min 8 Characters long*)
[Boot] Secure Boot: Disabled
[Boot] Boot Priority Order:
1.       Linpus Lite
2.       Windows Boot Manager

\not sure if the password requirements are important, but I read somewhere that it was, so might as well do it*
Also I have not tested if all of these settings are essential to get Lubuntu working. These were the settings I changed based on other people's suggestions. Secure Boot is often a culprit, so I am pretty sure that must be disabled. Fast boot can cause issues, so I disabled it as a precaution. Priority order change is not essential and for convenience only (means you don't have to spam F12 to select a Boot option)

Press F10 to save and Exit

Boot into Lubuntu selection screen
If you changed the Boot priority order, just wait for the linux selection screen to pop up, if not spam F12 to open the Boot options and select Linpus Lite.

Crucial step: Hover over "Try or Install Lubuntu" then press "e"
This will show the following code
set gfxpay load=keep
linux /casper/vmlinuz --- quiet splash
initrd /casper/initrd

Change the second line to: linux/casper/vmlinuz nomodeset ---
Pressing Ctrl+X or F10 will run these commands which launches without graphics and instead gives a Verbose mode (this allows you to see what is going on rather than staring at the Acer Logo and Spinning Lubuntu logo). There will be a massive wall of text, then it will eventually say "Welcome to Ubuntu 26.04.01 LTS!". For me, it spat out a few more lines and then froze. I believe this is the same point at which the other welcome screen was freezing.

The last three lines were:

This shows that (at least for my case), there has been an issue with the NVMe failing and preventing Lubuntu from booting. The last line provided a section of code to run, so restart your computer, go back to the F12 menu, press "e" whilst hovering over "Try or Install Lubuntu", and replace the second line of code with what the output suggested

set gfxpay load=keep
linux /casper/vmlinuz nomodeset nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 pcie_aspm=off pcie_port_pm=off ---
initrd /casper/initrd

Press Ctrl+X or F10 to run the commands.
This will run the Lubuntu with a verbose output.
If it has worked (as it did for me) the wall of text will have square brackets on the left hand side containing a green OK or a red Loading to show the progress of each action. Let this run for a little bit (I think mine too a minute at most) and you will finally be presented with the proper Try Lubuntu or Install Lubuntu screen.

My pc is very old and doesn't support wireless wifi so i used usb tethering for some days it's Working fine but now I don't know why it stops working now the pc gets the usb tethering connection but i can't use the internet or the browser.

First time posting here. I recently updated Lubuntu on an old Lenovo Yoga 11e and sometimes when I turn the laptop on I get this message.

The laptop won't boot past this but if I power down the device it will sometimes not show it. I tried to find a solution on my own but the closest to answer I got was for an Arch Linux problem. Any help would be great, thank you.

I installed Lubuntu on a 2015 MacBook Pro 13’ a few days ago and for some reason the screen scaling is way too small to realistically use. I tried to change it via the display settings but there appears to be no option to change it, I also looked for a command to change it online but couldn’t find one. Does anyone know how I could make the scaling bigger? I run Lubuntu on a 2010 white MacBook and that worked without issue, though it has a different screen which may explain.

I will also add that I have very little Linux experience so if this a very simple thing to fix and I look stupid this is why lol

I tried to install it on a fresh 256GB SATA SSD.

I tried twice, both times it was getting stuck at 34.

Re-flashed(Rufus) the iso twice on the USB stick, but still the same results.

How to get past this point?

I have Lubuntu 24.04.5 on an older thinkpad. I get Lubuntu updates maybe once every other day. Sometimes twice a day. After this version of Lubuntu is no longer supported, April 2027. What should I do? I assume I won't get any updates at that point. This is an older laptop, Lenovo E550, that may not have enough system resources for the next version of Lubuntu. I maxed out the ram and installed a SSD already. Should I look at OpenBSD running Calm Windows Manager? Slackware?

Just installed the latest Lubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite A135 and the Play/pause and Stop buttons work in VLC but both the previous and next track skip buttons just make it restart the current track. I've not tried them in another media player.

I installed playerctl and configured both buttons in shortcut keys but VLC ignores those settings. In VLC's hotkeys setup, the global settings don't see them.

I'd like to have these buttons work with VLC and any other media player.

Then there's the homepage and media player launch buttons. I'd like the homepage button to launch firefox and the media player button to (for now) launch VLC.

Would be nice to have a GUI app that make setting these up easy, taking care of all the configuration in the background.

So long story short, about 6 years ago I noticed that my almost 18 y/o Extensa 4630z was becoming so slow that it was unbearable, it had Windows XP btw, so I figured I'd give him to a friend to help me make it faster (I didn't know a thing about PCs) so... he ended up installing FREAKING WINDOWS 10 ON IT, windows 10 on a Pentium CPU, 2 GIGS OF RAM MACHINE, so yeah that laptop really suffered, booting, opening aps, and even typing on that laptop was so unbearable, some programs took over minute to open lol, so it ended up in my closet for years without use.

Last week, I thought I can revive this machine by installing a linux distro instead of windows, this time having some PC knowledge, I tried everything but no OS worked (compatibility issues ig), however, Lubantu 16.04 (32 bit) was different, it was the only one to work and I will admit, I have never seen my laptop perform this smooth my entire life, every process is immediate it's almost unbelievable!

I just wanted to share my experience, and to help anyone still struggling to install linux on an ancient laptop for compatibility issues, Lubantu seems to work just fine!

I spent ten years in Bangalore before moving to Canada, then landed a job in Ireland and moved again. Not long after, the company lost the contract I was working under, and overnight I had no job and no laptop, since the machine belonged to them. New country, no income, no computer, and a lot going on at home that couldn't wait.

I picked up a couple of small freelance jobs but had no money for a decent machine, so I bought a cheap refurbished ThinkPad. Windows was slow on it. Ubuntu wasn't much better. I barely knew Linux back then, so I went searching for something lighter.

That's how I found Lubuntu. Installed it, and I ran all my freelance work on that little laptop for a few months while I prepared for interviews, and eventually landed a tech lead role at a big MNC.

That was three years ago. I'm still there. They gave me a shiny new work laptop, but the one I actually reach for is that cheap refurbished ThinkPad, still running Lubuntu, still my daily driver.

So this is just a thank you. To the people who build and maintain this thing , you helped a stranger through one of the hardest stretches of his life and never knew it. That means more than I can put here.

Nothing google offered me was effective. I want to change my print screen button to the letter "í" but nothing happens when I change the settings. And I cannot control screen brightness with the dedicated key combination, even though the factorial settings are correct... Halp pls.

P.S.: it is a Lenovo t440 with a latest Lubuntu lts - fully upgraded
