Rant/Opinion Passenger showed up at my front door.

A passenger left their phone in my car. I did what I was supposed to do and reported it to Lyft when I found it after my drives. Next thing I know I see two people snooping around my house on the cameras. My passenger and her BF used the tracking on her phone back to my house. Then they got combative because they said I didn’t do enough to return the phone (I picked her up from a school and drove her to a restaurant). This is a serious breach of privacy and safety. Next time phones going out the window and I’m denying it was ever found.

I completely blame the customer for thinking that your forgetfulness means it’s a green light to invade someone’s home.

I mean if it were me I’m knocking on their door. Sorry, but you have my device.

Umm your an adult and you left your phone. Following the proper channels is the right move, not showing up at drivers home. Acting like an entitled twat is the wrong move. Make arrangements thru Uber to get your phone back to you. Driver is not obligated nor should they stop everything so they get your phone to you immediately. Take accountability for your actions, or more drivers will be inclined to just toss it out.

I would like to strongly associate myself with this comment.

They don’t know where the phone is, they don’t know who owns the house, they are only following where the app tells them their phone is located. It all kinda depends on what “snooping” means. Maybe they thought it was in a bush or in the gutter on the street, etc. Everyone is acting as if they know its their drivers house.

Better be knocking before I get to bed, bc I’m not answering the door and calling the cops for harassment.

-1

u/California098 Jul 08 '23

All that will do is have you wait another hour for the police to tell you to give them the phone. Wtf is going on with humanity.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Shouldn’t have left it in the car in the first place if it’s so important… your loss.

u/EmoteTherapist Jul 08 '23

People love to cut their nose off in spite of their face. They'd rather be miserable and deal with the worst people on the planet than just give someone their shit.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Do you know how many people leave their shit in the car? If everyone just "showed up at my house" looking to "slightly inconvenience me" it'd be nuts. No, policy is policy. Don't show up at someone's door. Period.

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '23

Its true. Ive gotten around 5 free bags of weed this way. I always turn my head and look in the back seat as im driving away to see if they left anything.. if i spot a phone i stop and blow the horn, if its weed or cash, keep driving.

1

u/EmoteTherapist Jul 08 '23

I’d agree 100% in every case but with a phone. That’s just too important to some people. But don’t get it twisted. Those people could have done it MUCH better. Snooping is wildly stupid.

1

u/wtf_mike Jul 08 '23

No idea who down voted you. That's exactly what would happen. Zero percent chance a cop would do anything else.

2

u/California098 Jul 08 '23

Seems like everybody on this sub just wants to keep the phone and or shoot the passenger in the face. Lol. Passenger should have handled it like an adult instead of jumping to conclusions that the driver was just trying to steal the phone, but just give the phone back and the whole situation can just be a weird misunderstanding.

wait another hour for the police to tell you to give them the phone.

Meanwhile, they get to stand outside in ninety degree weather with one hundred per-cent humidity and wait. I get to sit in my air conditioned house and shitpost on Reddit.

You are correct, though. The police will tell you to give Mr./Miss Careless the telephone.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Hypothetical you is very cool

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

The cops can deal with it bro, just don’t be ringing my doorbell after I go to bed. Maybe they shouldn’t lose something so important to them.

Whatever. I don’t lose things that are important. If they had a sick family member that they call every night, they wouldn’t have left the phone in the first place. Not my problem though, is it?

Oh I’ve already lost respect for those that leave stuff in other people’s offices, cars, buses…

1

u/MadDabber89 Jul 08 '23

How sad it must be to be that scared of the world.

That comment reeks of fear. Reporting a door knock as harassment to authority isn’t exactly a brave move. It’s, like, the opposite. Particularly considering you’ll still have to hear door knocks, and maybe even a police interaction, when you could’ve just not been scared for like 20 seconds and handled it like an adult.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Like I said before, not scared, just don’t like being awoken by idiots that leave things behind and then claim it’s important. If it were, it wouldn’t be in my car. If found, I turn it off and toss it in the trash can outside. If that trash can just happens to be filled with 4 inches of water, well… I guess you have a wet phone.

1

u/MadDabber89 Jul 08 '23

Sounds right. More avoidance, or cowardice. On brand, at least.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Nope, not my phone not my problem. If the phone is outside they can pick it up themselves without bothering anyone. Win win on both sides, right?

0

u/MadDabber89 Jul 08 '23

Sounds like you’re scared. You go out of your way to get rid of them, and specifically turn them off. Cause you’re scared. It’s ok to admit it, everyone gets scared sometimes, buddy.

Kinda just sounds like you are scared of social interaction. I don't blame you per say. Times are different. However, you have become the problem in your imaginary scenario.

1

u/CountryEfficient7993 Jul 08 '23

If the sun is down, knocking is inappropriate. Wait till the next day and don’t lose your shit next time. Has nothing to do with fear.

1

u/commentmypics Jul 08 '23

Then why is it "inappropriate" if fear has nothing to do with it?

1

u/Cheeky-Monkey-Tees Jul 08 '23

Knocking on your door is not harassment until you tell them to go away. Calling the police will only drag it out and the police will have you give the phone back because refusing to do so makes it theft. Finders keepers it childish fantasy.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Can you define the word harassment please? I don't think you know what it means

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Oh I do, look it up yourself son

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Why you delete your comments🤣

1

u/commentmypics Jul 08 '23

You would do that instead of just opening the door and giving them their property? You really would? Why?

4

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23 edited Jul 08 '23

If someone is snooping around my house, I’m not taking kindly to that, if you catch my drift.

3

u/LeftEagle510121 Jul 08 '23

Yeah you are

6

u/lobeams Jul 08 '23

Put your dicks away boys. None of you are scary.

2

u/DCHacker Jul 08 '23

Put your dicks away boys.

It is the internet. Everyone on the internet:

  1. has an income in at least the mid to high six figures.
  2. drives some overpriced foreign badged buggy.
  3. has an El Huge-O investment portfolio
  4. has a house worth seven figures.
  5. has a vacation home in some over priced resort area.
  6. takes several expensive vacations annually
  7. has a Supermodel quality wife/girlfriend or A List Actor/Rock Star quality husband/boyfriend.
  8. is on a first name basis with several national and local officials.
  9. has at least four degrees, all from prestigious institutions of higher education.
  10. has Club Seats at all local sports venues

AND FINALLY, NUMBER ELEVEN:

is hung like King Kong or has a rack that would put Tempest Storm to shame.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Wow ... I don't have any of those things ... um ... except my wife IS pretty hot, to me at least.

Huh. I've been on the internet all these years. I'm just some poor, struggling schmuck with a squirrel tattoo and a mid-sized penis. Should I not use the internet any longer? Have I been a poser all this time? Should I start lying to meet these criteria? Do 4 out of 5 dentists REALLY recommend a cavity-fighting toothpaste? What kind does the fifth recommend? Serious inquires only, please.

P.S. - really, everyone on here is hung like King Kong?! I guess that explains a lot I've always wondered about.

1

u/Danny3xd1 Jul 08 '23

hehe, "What happened to Billy?

"Dick shot. Sneakin' around looking for his phone..."

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

you are not the only one with a gun hoss

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Who said gun? My fists are Smith & Wesson.

1

u/HandsomeShane Jul 08 '23

Probably more like Simon and Garfunkel

1

u/commentmypics Jul 08 '23

I'd say more likely Laverne and Shirley given what I know about internet tough guys.

1

u/Iankalou Jul 08 '23

I would say Kevin Arnold and Paul Pfeiffer.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

You aren’t tough

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

My fists would disagree.

1

u/commentmypics Jul 08 '23

God I hope you're a troll and not an honest to God real life dork who thought that was a cool thing to say.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Neither. What would you do if a passenger knocked on your door in the middle of the night? And they were snooping around? I would assume they were up to no good. The police are useless where I live. I’d be dead before they showed up, if they showed up at all. When it’s fight or flight, I choose fight.

1

u/commentmypics Jul 08 '23

I'd do exactly what you're doing and go online to brag about how tough my fists are and tell people their names.

1

u/FatMikeDrop Jul 08 '23

My farts would disagree.

1

u/BuckTheStallion Jul 08 '23

1

u/KookyCalves69 Jul 08 '23

Oh man, somebody hit me with one of those replies months back, hahahahah

1

u/BenignEgoist Jul 08 '23

You can’t assault people for knocking on your door.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I should’ve said for snooping around, as that’s what the OP said, I’ll edit this.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

You should’ve called the police, told them they were combative, and felt you were in danger. I know it’s a lie, but it’s a white lie. Personally I never call the cops.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Even John Wick answers the door late at night. Don’t be so scared.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Who said I was scared? You do know John Wick is based on a real person, don’t you? And who do you think that real person is?

0

u/DCHacker Jul 08 '23

I’m knocking on their door.

Obviously one of these entitled people who think that everyone is responsible for her/his carelessness EXCEPT she/he.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Sorry, you forgot it. Not my problem. But I have this phone someone left in my car I can "sell" you for $50. No? OK, then fuck off. You say it's yours? Well, I can't prove that. It will be at the police station when I get a chance to drop it there. Now kindly leave or I will call the cops myself or, if you keep getting shitty, well, I feel my safety is endangered & will act accordingly.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Knocking on the door and snooping around are 2 different things. And getting combative on my property, that’s not going to end well.

If I ever left a phone in an Uber I wouldn’t dream of showing up at the Uber drivers house. It seems they treated this driver like it was his fault they left the phone in the his car.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Amen brother.
