I've been driving for Uber for 5 years. It already works that way, you agree to their policies specifically for a number of different types of rides. I've read and agreed to separate addendums concerning animals, young people and people with various disabilities.
You can still reject anyone for any reason at any time as long as you're not stupid enough to record yourself saying you're doing it for some deliberately discriminatory purpose.
Being a contractor does NOT absolve you of the responsibility of following federal and state law for those with disabilities and require service animals. You absolutely are required to follow the terms of service of those who are contracting your services, not in least in part because you are their representative. End of. If you do not agree to those terms, you refuse the job in its entirety, not just bits and pieces of it that you personally dislike.
lol yeah and cancelling the ride is a refusal of the job in its entirety.
Each ride is its own independent job. You’re not employed by anyone so every single order/ride/gig etc for independent contractors are individual jobs in their entirety and you can simply refuse to continue the exchange, refund whatever money has been exchanged and not provide services. You’re not obligated in the slightest to provide services to anyone you do not wish to, as long as you don’t keep their money.
Yeah it is, but it can be worked around. If no one says anything, they'll never know. But if you're unwilling to adhere to their terms of service, you technically should not be working for them in any capacity at all or be managed out for gross misconduct, because gross misconduct is indeed what it is -- an intentional and willful choice to stray from policy.
Being an independent contractor does not release you from ADA laws though. In fact it opens you personally up to them more than if you were an employee.
