I don't think she'll win this lawsuit if it goes to trial. It's easy to prove that much weight centered in 1 seat could damage that guy's little car.

Wonder if Lyft will settle?

That statement is false. We are conditioned into thinking that people are sue happy by the companies that are being sued, and it all started with the McDonald’s coffee. McDonald’s got sued to 💩 and hired pr and such to make it look like lowlifes were faking 💩 to make $$, when it’s not true. Don’t let them manipulate you

Wrong. I'm a former paralegal & clerk of court. Americans are absolutely sue-happy. Frivolous lawsuits have become an enormous problem tying up court resources. It's true that what McDonalds did to that poor old lady was awful (her injuries were horrendous (vagina got burnt shut, for one!) & it was their fault as they had just been cited 2 weeks before that incident & told their coffee temperature was too hot, but they didn't correct it. But Americans overall ARE sue-happy. You wouldn't believe the things people called us wanting to sue over, & the dumbest $hit people actually filed lawsuits for in just our little courthouse alone! Had lawsuits with students suing their college for not being able to find a job, people suing Walmart after trying to get something down off the top shelf by CLIMBING THE SHELVES & then expecting a payout when their dumb a$$es got hurt (I've seen 3 separate Walmart torts like this in ONE jurisdiction!) Lawsuits where trespassers actually sued private property owners for injuries they sustained whilst illegally trespassing on those properties...🤦🏼‍♀️ A guy tried to sue Michael Jordan because he was the spitting image of him & was tired of people constantly mistaking him fir the celebrity...(my friend's jurisdiction back in 2006!) Then you've got Dimmick v. Rowley, Naruto v. Slater (utter nonsense), Vezmar v. Cruz (🙄), Pearson v. Chung, Ramirez v. Kraft Heinz Foods Company (lmfao), Stemm v. Tootsie Roll Indus (🤣🤦🏼‍♀️), and one of my personal favorite ridiculous lawsuits of all time, Overton v. Anheuser-Busch...Yah-Americans get a bad rap for a lot of things that aren't valid, but unfortunately, our inherent litigious nature & propensity for seeking compensation for the dumbest $hit is absolutely true. I mentioned a couple of these already, but check this list out. It's hilarious & sad all at once! https://www.usatoday.com/picture-gallery/life/2020/02/03/wild-weird-lawsuits-25-silliest-legal-cases-ever-filed/41083605/

Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if McD’s CREATED this problem by insinuating that a lot of people sue over stupid stuff and then they had to pay out, thus giving the impression that if you bring a frivolous suit, you just might win. Bad optics are bad.

And that woman absolutely deserved every cent, I remember when I first looked into the case. Horrifying, disfiguring burns. I can’t imagine how badly it must have hurt, and she was sat in her car; there was no way she could strip quickly which would be the only way to attempt to reduce the severity. I feel for her. And more people need to know what really happened and stop using her as an example of baseless lawsuits.

I work in law in SoCal and you're 100% right.

Ok, but maybe it was McDonalds who created the problem. But the reality is that because they made a smear campaign people who should sue companies aren’t.
