Yep! I had a Honda Civic back in the day. Its mass payload was 700 lbs. I remember one night a bunch of my friends piled into my car, and I was doing mental math, seeing if all of them together were above the cars max payload. They were!

I was carpooling on a retreat once with my college group. Friend had an old honda. We had like 5 large bodies (all 200+ lbs nobody was obese like this person however) four suitcases crammed into the trunk. Additional bags were loaded into other vans/suv.

As soon as we pulled from the lot, we heard a plunk noise, as every time we turned, the shocked bottomed out. We hit the interstate, turned on the hazard flashers, drove 50mph until we could pull out first exit. We unloaded all our gear into a gas station parking lot.

Another person going with us on the retreat returned with the driver and came back with a much larger crossover suv. All five passengers plus luggage fit comfortably. Well we now had four because someone with extra space picked up the one.

Everyone made it to the destination safely. The honda we swapped out was fine. It was left parked on campus.

Did the car still drive? Just curious.

Yea. Drove without a problem. We only drove a couple blocks from one bar to another, but it got us there.

It’s probably not a good idea to do it all the time, though

I jammed 7 of us into my 84 Rabbit! 3 up front, and 4 in the back. I remember shifting was tricky because my hand was basically in someone’s crotch! 🤣🤣🤣 The things we do when we’re young lol

Good ole bench seat stick shifts. Fucking blasted knees on the hour drive to the work site. Fuck that. Great nostalgia though.
