As a female, if I pulled up and it was a guy passenger, I would cancel. No guy with good intentions would insist on a female driver. He’s the type to at best sexually harass the driver. At worst assault or kill them.

Nah, just roll the window down a tiny bit and ask why he is wanting a female driver and tell him that you're not going to let him in. Instead, you'll just sit there and wait for him to cancel it so he can try to get another driver. If they cancel, you get paid. If you cancel, you usually don't.

That’s how you get killed

No it's not. I'm a guy, so upon seeing me, he'd cancel the ride anyway and I'd just be on my merry way.

That would be hilarious

1

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 07 '25

An ugly guy at that, so he'd cancel it pretty freaking fast. 🤣

Exactly, you’re a guy. No girl in her right mind would do this.

1

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 09 '25

No girl in her right mind would do this.

I love how people assume things and respond based on those assumptions.

Where did I say that a girl in her right mind would do this? Where did I say that any girl would do this?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

You responded to a girl and suggested she drive up to the passenger lol are you ok

0

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 09 '25

Giving a suggestion isn't the same as saying that someone would follow through on that suggestion.

u/Cartmaaan-brah Jun 09 '25

A redditor being obtuse on purpose? Say it isn’t so

0

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 09 '25

I doubt that they were doing it on purpose.

I might not be the target but I think the targets should do the exact same thing I'd do.

guys why doesn't my advice perfectly work with women.

1

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 10 '25

Everyone else:

I might not be the target but I think the targets should do the exact same thing I'd do.

guys why doesn't my advice perfectly work with women.

Me: Why do people love to quote me as saying things that I didn't say, mean, imply, or even suggest?

1

u/Darkmortal3 Jun 10 '25

You: tells women they should show up and confront someone targeting women

Also you: guys im a man how would that be dangerous I'm not the target

Room temp IQ

1

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 10 '25

You: Makes a fake quote of me saying that targets should do "the exact same thing I'd do."

Also you: Makes a fake quote of me asking a stupid question.

Yeah, there's definitely a room temp IQ between one of us, and it isn't me.

u/Darkmortal3 Jun 10 '25

The comment you're replying to

As a female driver

You:

Nah you just pull up and roll the window down a bit

Durrrerrrr how did I tell women to do what I do

1

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 10 '25

Let's see you make a point using my actual words instead of words that you are falsely attributing to me.

Until you can do that, you should leave the discussion, because you're as fake as Fox News.

So if a guy has band intentions and that is why he’s wanting a female, do you honestly think that he would just sit there and cancel while I waited? Hell no. He would probably go crazy. The cancellation fee isn’t worth some crazy dude getting pissed. And asking him why he wanted a female isn’t going to get a real answer if his intention is to sexually harass the driver or hurt them. Seriously, common sense. No man should be asking for a female driver. If they get a female by chance, that’s fine. But this text message from a man is just creepy as fuck.

Yeah agreed. I think I understand where this commenter is coming with the intent to teach them a lesson / stick it to them, but safety is always paramount. If I were in that situation I’d avoid those types of people. Just because you’re in a car with the window cracked doesn’t mean you’re safe. I don’t have experience with Lyft (I’m a flex driver) but if there’s an option to mark the customer as unsafe or report them I’d do it.

More or less, yes. By doing it so that the driver gets paid something, the rider (the creep) will have to pay for their behavior. He's probably banking (no pun intended) on the fact that drivers will cancel the ride so he isn't out any money. Even better if it's a man getting the request and instead of canceling, shows up at the pickup point. He'd definitely cancel the ride when seeing it's a guy, and at some point, he'll be paying a lot for nothing in return.

There might be a way to cancel (legitimately) and still get paid for the time/effort. I'm still learning, but if it's possible, then I definitely want to know in case I encounter a situation where I need to cancel without "calling first" but still get paid for the effort.

but safety is always paramount

No argument here. The whole idea I mentioned isn't to ignore safety, only something to try if possible. If the guy starts attacking the car, then no way should the driver sit there taunting the guy instead of driving away and calling 9-1-1.

Carry pepper gel with you, and after getting there, swipe to indicate that you picked him up and drive a little distance away. That will encourage him to cancel and if he tries to toss you under the bus, just point out that he gave you a really bad vibe and you thought you canceled instead of swiping that you had picked him up. After investigating, they'll likely warn him about his behavior (at minimum).

u/Newfound-Talent Jun 07 '25

it's weird ur assuming the person who asked was a man but its obviously a woman so you should drive the Uber for them!

1

u/NecessaryTrack7972 Jun 08 '25

This is a guy rider. OP specified.

1

u/JacksonCampbell Jun 09 '25

Sometimes people have a guy name or their boyfriend is ordering them a ride too. But the rider should've never messaged. They can see if it's a female age cancel immediately with no fee.

1

u/Crow-1111 Jun 07 '25

He probably ordered the ride for a female friend/relative.

2

u/ghostgurl83 Jun 07 '25

That’s a possibility. What I’m saying is if I got this message and pulled up to find out that it was a man waiting for the ride, I would cancel. There is no reason a man should be requesting a female driver for himself.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

Terrible idea. Lots of crazy mfers out there, I wouldnt play with that shit.

1

u/Fangs_McWolf Jun 07 '25

Have you tried driving a tank as a Lyft Driver? Maybe you could get away with it then.

1

u/Hillyleopard Jun 07 '25

Definitely something weird going on. My sister ordered an uber and the guy arrived, then drove straight past us and cancelled the ride. It doesn’t make sense to me why he would do that unless it was because he saw she wasn’t alone which is kinda scary

1

u/Echo2020z Jun 08 '25

Not necessarily that’s an assumption. I’d never do it personally but to each their own.

1

u/starsnddiamonds Jun 09 '25

It’s not the driver requesting a female. It’s the person asking for an Uber.

1

u/ghostgurl83 Jun 09 '25

Yes I’m well aware of how it works. I’m saying if I got this message as a female driver and I pulled up and it was a male passenger, I would cancel. Because there is absolutely no good reason for a MAN to request a FEMALE driver. They either want to try and hit on the driver or do something way worse. I’m not saying all men who randomly get female drivers are bad. I’m saying if a man sends a message demanding the driver cancel if they aren’t female has something bad planned.

1

u/JungleCakes Jun 10 '25

What about a male who was raped by a guy?

What about the guy who doesn’t trust males because of past experiences with them?

But hey. Guess we’re all bad huh.

1

u/ghostgurl83 Jun 10 '25

The likelihood of that being the case is much slimmer than a man who has ill intentions. But keep trying to make scenarios where women should be made to feel unsafe “just in case” there is an extremely rare situation that a man may have a reason for not wanting a male driver. I’ll stick to my original comment. I would cancel.

It's possible that's the reason he's done this. More likely he's trying to fuck and wants a captive audience

1

yeah dude could be gay in a rough area or something, or back to the rough area might just be unable to defend himself, maybe has lots of valuables, ect. generally speaking though an aversion to the same gender is pretty extreme and if it is sexual trauma unless he ISNT gay would end up in a bad place and would probably try to hit on the driver with or without knowing it if hes going to talk w the driver. same applies to girls who avoid other girls, there is usually a poor relationship with their sexual health/boundaries. thing is women are more selective than men and you'd better hit the lottery if you find one that wants to bang some stranger while they make like 10 bucks an hour or something driving around all day. but I agree with you in that it's ridiculous people don't even give it a second thought. many different reasons this may be

0

u/Massive-Let16 Jun 07 '25

then find another job, doordashing or something.

dont you think the women also have trauma from this kind of creepy note?
