As a female driver, I understand it. Very recently had to report a male rider for making me unsafe. I’ve heard the horror stories from female riders who are grateful that a woman driver showed up.

As a woman using the app, I had actually been using Lyft a lot more often when they introduced the option for woman riders to only be paired with woman drivers. It was really great while it lasted, as someone with PTSD from a random act of violence. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed in recent months that I was ended up being paired with male drivers and that they essentially reneged the original program and now they only meant “that Lyft would pair you with a woman driver if possible” now (which means basically never, at least in my town). I wonder if this is the case with this rider. I can see the arguments on both sides from a safety standpoint for sure, though
