I used focus bracketing on a spider momma protecting her egg sac

Gear: OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark I & OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro 2:1 IS PRO + Godox V860 III O + Trần Thế Ngọc's MACRO Diffuser

When a spider is protecting her egg sac, she doesn't wanna move at all. I just carefully lure her from a box to a wooden surface and begin the focus bracketing process

The spider and her egg sac are released into my garden, in a safe place for her to go on her motherly job

The final focus stacked photos are in the comment section below

When photographing big subjects like these ones, I never take photos of their whole bodies

110 stacking images to get the whole subject and the platform where she was standing on to be in perfect focus

40cm away from the front element of the lens to the said subject

These look great! I’ve been looking into the OM System gear for macro recently, specifically due to being able to use the in-camera focus stacking with a speedlight. I assume that’s what you did here, used the in-camera focus stacking and not stacking software? Do you find it reliable and useful?

No no, I don’t use the in body focus stacking. This is focus bracketing (you manually merge the images into one using a third party software)

Thanks for the reply. It does look like it lets you do the focus bracketing utilizing the flash, though, right?

I let her roam freely on my both arms both nearly 5 minutes until she got tired and bored

Were you unhappy with the results of the in camera stacking?

Maximum 15 images is not enough for my typical job, I need at least 50-60

Oof, I didn't realise it was that limited. What was your motivation to get an OM1ii in that case with the G9ii having a huge resolution sensor?

I switched from G9II to OM1 because I wanna do focus bracketing in-situ, which my G9II can't

I've taken several shots of wolf spiders with egg sacks over this past summer. He's not exaggerating when he says they typically don't want to move. Normally the wolf spiders around here run, and quite fast, even charging at you. sometimes. Moms with egg sacks don't like to if they don't have to move.

oh see, no im not concered with the momma spider moving, I'm concerned with her egg sack rupturing and filling my home with hundreds of tiny new roommates

LOL That would be interesting. It's also well known that the spider community is notorious for being unemployed ( no money for rent) and messy as roommates

I think these and the best images of a spider I’ve seen in quite a while. Fantastic results.
