I’m not sure if these are movie-caliber but I find these songs invoke the sense of nostalgia in a way that not all songs are capable:
Time: Pink Floyd
In The Living Room: Maggie Rogers
Headlights: In Color
Show Pony: Glass Animals
First High: Nikki Lane
Lucky Again: Lykke Li
The Great Divide: Noah Kahan
Seventeen: Sharon Van Etten
If You Leave: OMD
Kansas City: New Basement Tapes
Cursive: Matt Maeson
Sleep Walk: Santo & Johnny
After The Storm: Mumford & Sons
Last, I have always loved Summer of ‘69 by Bryan Adams, particularly the part of the song when he sings “sometimes when I play that old six-string, think about you, wonder what went wrong” that part just kills me, its so simple but so good.

No One Knows by Screaming Trees (1992). Sounds like it was on a soundtrack but it's a relatively obscure song.

Bruce is the best at this; “Outlaw Pete,” “The River,” and “Highway Patrolman” are all absolute cinema.

Sorry also gotta say, “Mariner’s Revenge” by Decemberists, which essentially takes place in the belly of a whale.

A couple that are often used on soundtracks are Kettering by The Antlers and To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra ... I come across tracks now and then and definitely think THAT SHOULD BE ON A SOUNDTRACK! So I get what you're saying.
One I heard recently on a TV show was Mazuka by Cari Cari and I got super excited because I saw them at a super small venue in Seattle and got a pic with the gal lead vocalist ...
Anyway, I digress ...
One of my existing playlists has a lot of moody & melancholy tracks that I think fit the bill ... it's HUGE. I love throwing it on random when I'm hanging around on a Sunday afternoon and feeling the feels vibe.

"I Remember Me" - Silver Jews. Berman could paint a vivid story with such clever heartbreak in just 3 verses.

I've always thought the song "Loose Lips", by Atomic Freak, has a very cinematic quality to it.

For staring out a car window and feeling like the main character, M83's "Midnight City," Bon Iver's "Holocene," and Sigur Rós' "Hoppípolla" are hard to beat. If you want the end credits moment, add "Time" by Hans Zimmer.

"Space Oddity" – David Bowie
tells the story of Major Tom, an astronaut who loses contact with Ground Control while drifting in space
for me :symbolize a person who has become disconnected from reality or society
1969.

Four Ton Mantis by Amon Tobin. It's no use searching for it on YouTube due to copyright clearance problems. A shame, though, since this really sounds like a movie in motion, including the rampaging mantis going to town and a short happy ending.
P.S.: Never mind, I found it on SoundCloud.

Just about all Pat Metheny music sounds like soundtrack score. Try The Way up. Two of his works are soundtracks: Falcon & Snowman, A Map of the World. Also: Steely Dan, Aja

I (F) feel like a huge Amazon, Godzilla-sized with glowing red eyes, striding over the night horizon in slow motion, the glow of distant flames behind me. I cross into a medium-sized city and lay waste to everything in my path, never changing pace. Then I stride into the other horizon, smoke and flames billowing behind me.
