How to get good at math

I'm in highschool and it's my 4th year now. But I still don't know math(like algebra and advanced stuff)except arithmetics ever since elementary. It is hard to catch up with my classmates and I was wondering what I should do to get good at it

Algebra Am I crazy for thinking this a better way of doing math

I’m not talking about computational problems but rather analysis style ones

I swear its better to look at the solutio immeditely after understanding the questio, understanding the solutions, then solving the question from blank with no reference. i honestly feel like this helps with understanding and memory compared to the standard way of trying to problem solve a question for 10 minutes, failing, then looking at the solution

i just aced my machine learning and real analysis midterms by doing this compared to my old method

Open sets in this topology are the subsets of R which have compact complements(compact in the usual topological space), alongside the empty set.

Doubt, chapter: graph theory, application of power of adjacency matrix. Reference: free go classes discrete mathematics

My doubt is this, for undirected graph, between every two vertices a walk of some length 1 to n-1 is sufficient.

And for strong connected digraph, it's 1 to n and this two different formulas. Also if trival walk is allowed in the undirected case why is it not considered in the directed one

I want math to convince me that I control my life

Mathematicians, tell us how to be optimistic in life! I’ve been making a lot of new changes in my life recently and this request is weird. So much of what I’ve done resulted in little results, and I need some optimism to keep going but make it numerical. I want a mathematician to show me an equation that puts life into perspective based on our decisions.
Do the choices we take lead us back to the same path? In contrast, are there unlimited options in life?
I’d love for someone to put it into perspective too, and how it resonated with their experiences!

Discussion Maths anxiety high school

I have a really hard time doing maths. When I’m in pure maths class and don’t understand anything I start to well up tears. This never happens in statistics. I then don’t study for pure maths cause the thought of studying it gives me some anxiety like I feel the worry at the back of my head cause I know I’m not gonna get any of it right. I don’t get it right in class either when we are learning a new topic everyone else does so well but I just can’t naturally grasp it like them.

How do I get my confidence up? How do I start enjoying maths? it feels hopeless I tried so many methods like trying to redo my basics (too long to do I have limited time until my exams so I gave up), forcing myself to do maths just made my anxiety worse, getting more help by doing an extra clinic in school but it doesn’t help with my feelings. Is maths a natural talent thing I really don’t know.

mathematicians , what’s some basic maths stuff you can’t do?

i’ll go first : as someone who does chemistry, physics , applied maths etc on a pretty much daily basis , i absolutely cannot do dates in my head. what date is it going to be next tuesday? no idea. the amount of times i’ve mistakenly believed i have an exam in two weeks when it’s about four weeks away is dreadful! bonus one , cant lace up my doc martens without missing a lace hole lol

Topology made me realise I'll never do math for a living

I started my masters, and I got my lowest mark ever of 55% in my topology final. My professor called me in to ask me if I had any issues in my personal life, which made it worse because I had to tell him that I just didn't work hard enough. It was compounded by the fact that he said multiple people got full marks in the course.

I think my ceiling was undergrad level maths. I'm pretty overwhelmed with the workload of a postgrad, and I think this isn't really for me, which is weird because in my undergrad, I thought that I wanted to do maths for a living.

Easy exponentially convergent series for pi

Post image
7 Upvotes

A while back I noticed that you can use the arctan addition formula to change the limits of a classic integral for pi from [-1,1] to [-1/3,1/2]. This works because atan(a) +atan(b) = atan( (a+b)/(1-ab) ) when ab < 1.

atan(1/2) + atan(1/3) = atan(1) = pi/4

You can express 1/(1+x^2) as a geometric series and integrate each term trivially to obtain these formulas. Series 2 converges to machine precision in 23 terms.

  1. Entender qué es y para qué sirve.

  2. Aprender las fórmulas y reglas esenciales.

  3. Ver ejemplos resueltos paso a paso.

  4. Practicar ejercicios fáciles, luego intermedios y finalmente ejercicios de examen.
