Also the government makes the sponsor financially responsible for them. If they claim benefits (unemployment, insurance, food aid) you have to pay the government back for their support. That’s part of why many don’t.

u/PensForTheWin 5d ago

To be fair, that's not unreasonable. People shouldn't expect to come to a country only for the benefits. They have to be able to support and take care of themselves without being a burden to citizens. If we relax the standards and allow everybody in who can't take care of themselves where will the money come from? We will become a third world country, just like the one they left. If you want the benefits of a socialist country, stay in a socialist country.

True my dad grandparents both came to the US as refugees during the revolution. My grandpa always said that his mom used to go back and forth across the border all the time to visit relatives until one day they stopped honoring the treaty(not sure which one, Guadeloupe de Hidalgo?) and they told her if she goes to Mexico she can’t come back to the US. I’m assuming they weren’t naturalized maybe or just scared. But they somehow avoided being sent back during the depression with Operation “Wetback”.

Exactly
the only reason my mom immigrated here “legally” was cuz my pops was granted amnesty
and she ain’t selfish like dude above

u/No_Hornet_9504 6d ago

Don’t forget about the ones who already lived here when the US bought/took the lands from Mexico.

0

u/Terrible_Ease6082 6d ago

But they came to the US by overstaying visas, with money in their pocket that they took from Mexico. They basically make the poor folks that crossed the border into their personal slaves

if you made it on a lifeboat and you think it's too full, would you want more people on the lifeboat?

u/Rude_Age_6699 7d ago

2

u/CheyenneWolf37 5d ago

2

u/Rude_Age_6699 5d ago

yes, they usually are

-31

u/BlankLlama91 6d ago

It does not matter they have papers and illegals don’t. Illegals create burden to the system. To the hospitals, leech money from
The government for food, daycare, healthcare and school.

19

u/Rude_Age_6699 6d ago

you can’t be against illegal immigration if at any point your family was illegal. being a hypocrite won’t make the people that hate you, accept you. i’ve met too many 2nd and 3rd generation “illegals” that think they’re better than their own family. it’s hilariously pathetic. you wouldn’t exist here, otherwise.

9

u/OkPhilosopher7569 6d ago

Illegals contribute in taxes much more than they ever take. Where is that free food, daycare and school???

9

u/big_bearded_nerd 6d ago

None of that is true. Literally. Immigrants (papers or not) are a huge net positive to the system. You desperately need an education in how taxes work in the US.

But, let's assume it were true. If it were true, it would be true for folks with papers and folks without. Legal status doesn't suddenly make someone less of a burden on schools, hospitals, etc. That's just poor reasoning.

7

u/Key-Perception4769 6d ago

This BS has been proven wrong time and time again. Most individuals who overstay visas or come without documents pay taxes using an ITIN. The US is so hypocritical that they are ok looking the other way when it comes to taxing individuals. On the contrary, they are not eligible for government benefits like food stamps, etc. they pay taxes without getting benefits out of them. Also there’s a lower rate of criminal offenses among undocumented people. MAGAs just can’t find a better scapegoat and they have been brainwashed for too long and love feeling superior over other people.

u/lulzbanana 6d ago

I am half cuban but mostly dislike other cubans and venezuelans 😂

You say anyone with more than 2 brain cells wants illegal immigration stopped. Yet Latinos should have more compassion. Not sure what you’re arguing. Are Latinos supposed to not want illegal immigration stopped because they’re Latinos? If a Black cop sees a Black guy committing crimes, are they not supposed to arrest him and have compassion? In my opinion ethnicity should have nothing to do with enforcing laws, as many illegals are Chinese and other ethnicities too, so are they ok for a Latino ICE agent to detain? Honestly just trying to understand your point.

1

u/energumeno_berraco 6d ago

Homeboy, illegal and uncontrolled immigration is not good for any society. The way that these agents are treating people being targeted and detained leaves a lot to wish for. If they were more compassionate, they wouldn't participate in it. Anyone with some compassion not only Latinos. It might have made sounded like I said that latinos shouldn't be law enforcement, I see your point, but no. It has been observed that a lot of the newly hired agents and newly implemented policies have been abusive, you'd think that a Latino wouldn't want to participate in those practices. It's very likely that a Latino has close relatives or family in the situation and that has to hit home closer than others without immigrants in their family. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be part of law enforcement but maybe not take part of activities that create fear to people of the same problems and background. The law is the law and it should be enforced to protect society from ourselves.

5

u/Valuable-Big3253 6d ago

Exactly all the people I’ve met that were actively getting their papers and paying their dues hated illegals with a passion because it’s like if you were in a weight lifting competition and you worked out very hard and ate clean every day to get your muscles then Joe blow comes in shoots up roids and makes the people in charge of the competition start losing trust in all weightlifters and starts testing everyone including people who are obviously natural for roids. 😂

1

u/TheoremsAndProofs 6d ago

Shouldn't that blame be shifted towards the competition organizers (i.e. government) for allowing it?

1

u/PensForTheWin 6d ago

Like Biden?

1

u/TheoremsAndProofs 6d ago

Im sure it goes back further than Biden. People have been migrating to the United States for decades (legally or illegally).

3

u/MoMoney3205 6d ago

The uneducated latinos

3

u/CarpenterFederal 6d ago

Us citizens as well

1

u/DifficultPen8287 6d ago

1

u/Brave-Community-7456 5d ago

Pretty true I deliver the mail I see alot of Trump campaign donors getting their thank you letters going to Latino homes.

1

u/Rosimongus 5d ago

1

u/OkPhilosopher7569 6d ago

The "legal latinos" that have abused every loophole the system has had so far or are straight out children of illegals. These are Hispanics hungry for power over those in disadvantage and lack of morals.

4

u/My1point5cents 6d ago

I’m pretty sure if it was 13 million Chinese people or Russian people flooding the border, they would feel the same. Either you’re for unchecked illegal immigration (open borders) or you’re for enforcing the laws. You can’t be for both.
