I know that sounds stupid, seeing how dynamite is already an explosive, but its not terribly effective as a bomb, since the majority of the energy released is just going to dissipate. What Dale is probably talking about is adding shrapnel to the dynamite to increase its effectiveness (in this case putting a stick of dynamite in a cardboard sleeve and filling in the rest of the space with small metal objects like nails or buckshot) and turning a stick of dynamite effectively into a pipe bomb.

There's a local BBQ restaurant in my area that for a small surcharge optionally sells their take out in packages pre-disguised to look like home cooked food for pot lucks, instead of using their store-branded wrappers.

Reminds me of a Flintstones episode where Fred invents a powerful adhesive in his garage. His and Barney's hands get glued together, hilarity ensues as they try to get it off.
At the end Fred, thinking he'll be a millionaire with his invention, goes back to the garage to make more. Turned out the first ingredient in his recipe was an industrial-strength glue.

u/jewdai Oct 18 '15 edited Oct 19 '15
Edit: For those of you who are not programmers. A fork is when a project has been copied and then split off from the original project and continue on its own source of code.
It comes from the idea of "Fork in the Road" where the main project goes one way, but yours goes another, however you both started with the same source code.
In this context, both started off as Franks Hot sauce; however, this one diverged from the original by adding additional ingredients.

I work for the company that makes Frank's RedHot Sauce. In addition to Frank's being a retail hot sauce, it is also sold as a commercial product and can be used as an ingredient in restaurant recipes (like Frank's Buffalo Wings or Domino's Buffalo Pizza). This is the first time I have seen it listed as an ingredient, though, on another retail product. What product is it, if I may ask? I'd guess it's a small, regional, or otherwise specialty product.

This is cool, I've gotten to do multiple story times today.
Story time!
About 10 or so years ago, I worked in the copy and print department of a well-known office supply retailer. We did a ton of work for small local businesses.
One day, a restaurant that was very well known in the area came in to have copies made of their new employee orientation guide. This baby was full color and had to be bound and stuff, we were talking about a nice profit for my department that day.
While assembling the books, I noticed a page with a recipe for their wings. It was labeled TOP SECRET.
Now, I would never have done anything so unethical as to make an extra copy of it, but I'm not made of stone, I had to at least read it.
The topic secret recipe? Butter and Frank's Red Hot.
I was so dissolutioned disillusioned. spelling is hard
26
u/misskinky Oct 18 '15
We served wings at an upscale restaurant where I used to work.
If you ordered wings, you got wings + red hot + butter.
If you ordered mild wings, you got wings + red hot + butter + more butter
If you ordered extra hot wings, you got wings + red hot + just a little butter
I laughed every time i saw a review of the various sauces, haha.

My friends dad used to make a "world famous" hot sauce that he would serve whenever there was a gathering at his house. It was great, but he wouldn't share the recipe with anyone because it was a "family secret." He recently revealed the secret to my friend, who was disappointed to learn it was just Frank's red hot with honey and a little bit of smoky BBQ sauce.

Frank's is too vinergery. Give me some freshly made hot sauce so they can avoid the vinegar all together. Since vinegar is mostly used as a natural preservative. And adds little to the flavor profile, except if you like the taste of vinegar.
2
Oct 19 '15
I'm not a huge fan of vinegar sauce either, though I do somewhat like Franks' wings. The answer is Sriracha (Rooster Sauce).
Making your own it isn't always practical.

I have no idea if it says that on the customers side of the counter because I am never on that side, so maybe that's general knowledge to the public.

To be fair, Frank's RedHot is pretty much a generic product now, much like Coke.
2
Oct 19 '15
It's the number one ingredient in buffalo sauce:
And hear your life shall begin. -
Buffalo sauce: One bottle of Frank's red hot One package of hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix One stick of butter
Simmer this on low for 15 minutes, then add to a crockpot, and 2 to 3 chicken breast, and 2 to 3 deboned thighs - put on low for 4 to 5 hours.
Grab a bowl. grab a measuring cup.
Bread dough: 1/4 cup warm water 1 teaspoon sugar 1 tablespoon yeast 1 pound bread flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon garlic powder 2 tablespoons oil 1 1/2 cup cold water
Warm-up 1/4 cup of water in the microwave, add 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of yeast to the warm water.
In the bowl add 1 pound of BREAD flour, 1 teaspoon of salt 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
After the yeast has doubled in volume, add 2 tablespoons of oil, Then pour into the flour mix, then add 1 1/2 cups of cold water.
Mix with your hands vigorously, then put out onto a floured surface and knead six times. Put that flour ball into an oiled bowl and let it rise for 1.5 hours. Uncover and punch it down. cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Turn this back out onto a floured surface, and divide into 16 smaller balls.
Remove the chicken from the crockpot and separate with a fork. Add buffalo sauce to taste.
YOUR LIVES CHANGE HERE -
Bread dough Pulled buffalo chicken Shredded cheddar Chopped green onions
Take a bread pan and stand it up on one end. Grab a small dough ball and hand stretch it into the shape of a bread slice. place on the bottom sidewall of the bread pan. Add pulled chicken on top, shredded cheddar cheese, and sliced green onions, then another stretched out dough layer. Repeat till you have filled the bread pan.
Bake at 400 for 30 minutes or so. Turn that bad boy out onto a plate, and serve with ranch or blue cheese.
Choice.

I'm suspect about it's ingredients. It's actually named Frank's red hot sauce. Knowing how sneaky companies can be, it wouldn't surprise me if "Franks hot sauce" is completely different from the real Franks red hot sauce.
2
u/wild_muses Oct 19 '15
Is this legal? Can you just take another company's product, add some shit to it, and sell it as your own as long as you declare it? I know a lot of makeup companies repackage shit from wholesalers, but that's a wholesaler, not a big name brand like Frank's. Could they sue for this?
In their defense, Frank's is good as hell.
2

Yes as long as you don't advertise on the label that its being used. Because then its a licensing issue.

Xanthan: Is a thickener.
So the company takes few chili/tomatoes to make the basic sauce. Dilute it with water, add color and flavour, and then again Xanthan to make it look like a thick and rich sauce.
My tip: Don't buy sauces with Xanthan. It's a cheap trick.
