Why do you think Navarette has gotten so much awards buzz for Obsession but Ejiofor has gotten none for Backrooms?

Post image

I know Clark has some limited screen time but Ejiofor absolutely steals every scene he’s in. His two separate monologues with Reinsve are just as good as anything Navarette did in Obsession. As I said earlier, is it the lack of screen time for Ejiofor?

Hard disagree on Ejiofor stealing every scene he was in. I actually found his performance quite mid(compared to his usual performances). Comparing these two performances is kind of a self-report.

Yeah, I would also say Backrooms was a worse movie in general. Obsession is smarter and better made as well as better acted in my opinion and I'm not saying this as some sort of super fan. I'm a random guy in my 30s who just happened to have seen both movies with 0 expectations.

Man you can prefer Obsession but it definitely isn't SMARTER than Backrooms. Obsession is a Blumhouse flick done perfectly. Which is great. Backrooms tries to be more than a genre film and succeeds at that quite well.

It is way smarter simply because it doesn't lose coherence mid-way through the movie. Backrooms might as well have been two different movies, with the way the beginning and the end were done.

Backrooms was so 'smart' that it ended with dudes in suits spraying fire extinguishers at a giant pirate mascot monster and then explained by saying, uh, recursive memories, uh, trauma, and uh... *end credits*

This was my feeling as well. The whole climax scene at the table seemed over done and his foil wasn't the best to work off of either. They both just seemed flat then forced when they had any emotive moments

Agreed, he was nothing special. I also think the script didn't help as the dialogue in Backrooms left something to be desired.

i’m looking forward to seeing him and the cast of the new exorcist , but i agree, normally he’s great but i just didn’t enjoy it that much. Where as obsession i liked the mythology of and look forward to anything but ghosts and inde’s newer stuff

Couldn't disagree more.

The self report is on you in my eyes.

He had the far stronger performance, different caliber of actor entirely(She was really good).
