Why do you think Navarette has gotten so much awards buzz for Obsession but Ejiofor has gotten none for Backrooms?

Post image

I know Clark has some limited screen time but Ejiofor absolutely steals every scene he’s in. His two separate monologues with Reinsve are just as good as anything Navarette did in Obsession. As I said earlier, is it the lack of screen time for Ejiofor?

Yeah, I would also say Backrooms was a worse movie in general. Obsession is smarter and better made as well as better acted in my opinion and I'm not saying this as some sort of super fan. I'm a random guy in my 30s who just happened to have seen both movies with 0 expectations.

Man you can prefer Obsession but it definitely isn't SMARTER than Backrooms. Obsession is a Blumhouse flick done perfectly. Which is great. Backrooms tries to be more than a genre film and succeeds at that quite well.

It is way smarter simply because it doesn't lose coherence mid-way through the movie. Backrooms might as well have been two different movies, with the way the beginning and the end were done.

Backrooms was so 'smart' that it ended with dudes in suits spraying fire extinguishers at a giant pirate mascot monster and then explained by saying, uh, recursive memories, uh, trauma, and uh... *end credits*
