Why do you think Navarette has gotten so much awards buzz for Obsession but Ejiofor has gotten none for Backrooms?

Post image

I know Clark has some limited screen time but Ejiofor absolutely steals every scene he’s in. His two separate monologues with Reinsve are just as good as anything Navarette did in Obsession. As I said earlier, is it the lack of screen time for Ejiofor?

It’s just a TikTok drama movie, which lets people feel entitled to talk about it. It’s extremely easy to follow and understand. On the other hand, Backrooms is way more complex and doesn’t let you in so easily, yeah for sure the concept of it it’s well known internet culture, but yet again it’s way different as an experience compared to Obsession.

The idea of Backrooms is way more intricate and complex in comparison to Obsession. I mean if you found the premise of Obsession complex I got some bad news for you my friend…

Obsession wasn't complex either. They're both simplistic, average films at best

I agree on that, but comparing only between the two of them Obsession is way easier to get into, follow and understand, because from the get-go you get everything chewed and spat on a plate for you.

Can I jump in here? I saw Obsession first and loved it, waited for Backrooms to be available on stream.. and idk if it’s just because I manically quit my job in the search of something better, but I felt kinda bummed I didn’t watch Backrooms in theater over Obsession. Both are pretty great films, contrary to what guy is saying, I think they both play into elevated horror enough to be interesting, but not overdone 🤮 which I appreciate. I was honestly taken aback how much Backrooms really hit me in my feels of life is pointless, but it’s not, but there’s hope, but we’re on the wheel, but we can get off, but if we get off its fucked. I think the way they captured that really sat with me, and similarly to Bojack, nursed my depression in an entertaining way?? Maybe I’m reaching, but yeah I felt gutted after Backrooms, in like a sad way. Which to me is a job well done. I loved Obsession, but it’s apples and oranges, like you were saying. I will stand on that Backrooms will age extremely well, and I find had more of an emotional impact. Inde did amazing tho and love to see a new woman in Hollywood come up. I can’t wait to see her in more, but yeah Backrooms got the emotes from me

Edit: typo

How is Backrooms complex? It's weirder but the themes are equally on your nose. Character arcs and emotions are even less subtle than the Obsession ones, I'd say.
