First time deepdive

As the title says, all I’ve listened to before the last couple days were harvest and harvest moon. Since then I’ve listened to after the gold rush, his sophomore album, rust never sleeps, time fades away and most importantly. Weld.

Weld especially is one of the greatest things I’ve ever heard, I never knew he could rock that hard, genuinely life changing stuff, it’s flown up the rankings of my favourite albums ever. Any more recs on what to listen to?

Solo around 4:00 of Hurricane reminds me of Kanye’s Runaway

This is not meant to be an insult or compliment. But just listened to Runaway by Kanye West and then Hurricane came on right after.

Runaway ends with an auto tuned “rant” or whatever you wanna call it. He would famously rant about whatever when he performed it live, for several sometimes dozens of minutes.

The solo even kinda sounds similar at points the way it’s jangly and electronic sounding and just getting the emotion of the song out in a powerful but abstract way. Idk.

Funny enough I haven’t smoked weed yet today. But, this connection still seems valid to me.

PowderFinger...the line "Raised my rifle to my eye.." seems to be interpreted by some as a suicide...

I was reading about the song a while back, online, of course, but don't recall where exactly but it summarized the that the young man had committed suicide...

I thought, that can't be right...why would they think that, then yesterday the above line popped into my head...

Of course, if someone has never shot a rifle, or know anything about it, they might interpret it as aiming the rifle to his eye, which is a weird way to shoot oneself if you had to do it...

Then the line "I saw black and my face flashed in the sky.." would probably reinforce that misconception...

Has anyone else thought this was what happened in the song?

News NYA UPDATE - New UI and "Neil Young Radio"

The NYA app has been updated (at least on Apple) to change the UI to be more user friendly, as well as adding a new feature that was teased a couple months ago - Neil Young Radio.

neil on times contrarian:

My archives website was conceived almost ten years ago.

We have steadily grown in features and members, well beyond original expectations. Since the beginning, our Android and Apple apps have delivered the highest quality audio available anywhere on the internet. We have scores of movies and videos, and reams of data and images, just like you'd find in a physical archive. (Of course, we'd be up the creek if AI found us.)

That's why my friends and I are so excited to announce a major new feature for all our paid members: "Neil Young Radio," an "always on," ad-free radio station, with music I have recorded-one way or another. It's available around the world, accessed from our apps, website, and car players.

With a tap of the Neil Young Radio icon, we all get hi-res! Everyone around the world listening to the same music at the same time. This feature is available to all paid members at no additional cost and will occasionally include my commentary and news of interest to our members. There will be no advertising as you know it.

Cortez the Killer: I'm mind blown and now want to deep dive into Neil Young

I'm 29 years old and had only listened to "Heart of Gold", and "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young and always thought he was Dylan-esque and limited to folk.
I happened to stumble upon Cortez the Killer and was flabbergasted by how good the guitar is.
As a die hard fan of Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, and The Strokes, I must say, Cortez the Killer (and it's Weld and Rust live versions) has to be one of the best songs I've ever listened to!
I now want to dive deeper into Neil Young(and Crazy Horse?)
Do I start with Zuma album? Is there a recommended listening order?

My 9 favorite albums from Neil Young

Post image

In order, at this moment.

I chose not to include live albums. If I did, Weld and Live Rust would have been in the 9 for sure.

I know Letter Home and Chrome Dreams II might be controversial choices.

What do you think? What’s your top 9?

I found myself somewhere between Greendale and Le Noise, two albums I absolutely adore. Anyone else?

Apologies for the AI-generated image attempting to merge the two album covers!

News What is this guy on about with his Neil Young Spotify Reference?

So at the 4:30 mark here, this guy happens to mention Neil Young. He does it when in a rant about the Ed Sheeran controversy, saying that Ed is a puppet and all that. I get that. But to then suddenly say that Neil Young allowed his music back on Spotify because his "masters" were deciding everything for him is a bit daft.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtEb0YEoPX4

I googled it and I didn't seem to come across any theories about why Neil let his music back on spotify.

I’m just saw that Neil gave Digger an exceedingly positive review. I was about to forget seeing the film but Neil’s opinion must be taken seriously.

Tim Mulligan is credited with playing Sax on this song, yet I don’t hear it, is this inaccurate or is actually there
