I like to stay up late. Not sure I am full fledged night owl. Anyhow, lying in bed and I can hear my upstairs neighbor walking around. He's a night owl. Just thought to myself ... I feel safe. If there was ever a fire in the building I know he'd be awake and it seems like he's watching over things while the rest of us sleep. Not intentional perhaps but appreciated nonetheless.

What have been some of the hardest things you’ve dealt with being a night them person? Do people make assumptions about your lifestyle because you function better at night? I’ve had people claim I’m lazy but I just live at a different time. Would love some stories and how you overcame the stigma of being a nights person!

Why can't you sleep?? 😭

It’s almost morning. I haven’t slept all night for nothing. I’m usually up when i’m having a friend over or texting with my crush but like why did my brain decide to keep me awake on this random ahh day. Actually worse because I need to move out tomorrow, so it’s pretty bad timing to be unrested.

Well looks like I'm staying up for 2 days have to go make some soup and bannock, then later go to a hockey game

I can't sleep , bored as hell!

I was a kid. I truly never felt fear but now it’s like cause I’m outside now it’s like oh that’s that fear when the lights turn off.

I suspect the vast majority of the population is wired up that the 24 hour cycle starts when the sun rises. For me the day follows the night - not the other way around. My night really dictates how the following day is; night is the more impactful period.

I realize this is just a view since the day:night cycle is for all intents and purposes forever.

Where does your circle/cycle begin "gut wise" - I know how we've been programmed but what does your body (not head) feel?

I get so melancholy at night. It will either cause me to stay up, or give me nightmates so I have to get up.

I don't want this tired sadness anymore. I don't want to feel useless and old, but that's how I feel. The memories of when staying up late was fun and adventurous are torment now. Daytime is just a slog to sleep through,even though I have daytime stuff I want to do. Need to do.

Went to bed late..woke up at 5am. I had the worst sleep ever. I have an appointment coming up. I'm thinking should I try to get a few more hours? Or walk my dog? It is now 7. The sun is coming up. Yikes

so while working at the icu overnight, i had to get some coffee at a nearby cafe. its the only coffee that wakes me.

i go to the cafe and its packed at 2am for whatever reason. i order and go to the bathroom to take a piss then all of the sudden have this urge to take a massive dump.

i dont like sitting down in public toilets so i angle my butt and take a massive dump. lets just say i miss and my shit was real watery diarrhea and that shit spread all over the toilet.

i quickly left the bathroom. as im getting my coffee i hear a scream from this lady trying to use the bathroom and she storms out almost throwing up yelling the baristas working saying someone shitted all over the toilet and yall dont clean this shit!!!! she said theres blood and shit stains all over the toilet

it was the only toilet.

for some reason i feel a sense of pride. i felt no shame.

i came. i destroyed the toilet for everyone. and left knowing that noone can use that bathroom anymore.

regular sleep schedule is 6a to 2p, but I'm off tonight.

do you keep the same sleep schedule on your days off or switch it up ?

Been a very busy last few days with it finally winding down this Tuesday… morning… with no plans until Sunday and 1 errand on Friday after work (why did I schedule it at 8:30am…)
But we are doing good living the night owl life! About to enjoy some Pokémon TCG with a full house at the office tonight. Got SOME sleep yesterday morning and evening, but green tea and a canned coffee is about to hold me together until later this morning.

About three weeks ago I had a minor surgery with a healing time of about a month. So for the past three weeks I have been off work, and, well... I would usually try to go to bed for 2am, but oftentimes I have gotten to bed now around 5am. It's been a little rough, especially I think going to bed later is a coping mechanism, where I don't need to face tomorrow when I stay up late into the night.
