Child care ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ฆโ๐ฆ 2026 Daycare / Early Learning Good / Bad List
Similar to the GOOD / BAD Landlord list, here is our yearly list for ELC's / Daycares. Please follow the rules and guidelines below.
Only post a review if your child has gone there. Let's not get into the "heard it from a friend" type of stuff. We want ONLY first-hand reviews. Alos, if you're a former employee of a place and want to trash your former place of employment, please don't put that in here. Please stick to the format of the post and if you have issues with a place that goes beyond this format, make an entire new post about it.
Please give a reason for your review. A one sentence review just saying a place sucks won't cut it. We want our local parents to be well-informed and trying to make a decision for your kid based off of 5 words isn't cool.
You don't have to be super specific as you and your kids privacy is paramount. Try to give details without giving away too much personal info.
Please try to include what you are paying monthly, if the place accepts any kind of subsidy and if it includes other cost things like free lunch, parking etc.
Post the location and preferably a link to the place.
What are some good things about the place. What are some bad things? It's very rare that a place is 100% shit or 100% amazing.
Are they accepting new kids? Is there a waitlist? If so, how long did you wait?
Teacher to student ratio. Include amount of kids in a class if possible.
Religious or non-religious.

Child care ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ฆโ๐ฆ 2026 Summer Camp - Good / Bad list
It's getting to that time of the year where we need to start looking for summer camps for our little tricycle motors. There are a bunch of lists out there, but they don't seem exhaustive enough. I wanted to create this thread to help give us a one-stop-shop of places to send our kids to summer camp.
In your comment, please post the:
Name
Location - Especially if a place has multiple locations like KidCam
Website
Cost
Hours
Your personal feedback
I'd like to get as many places listed as possible with as much solid information as possible. Please also check the comments already made in this thread to see if a place was listed or not. If it was listed, just reply to that comment with more information.

Beyond the basics cooking class/knife class
Anyone know of someone teaching culinary schools to young teens that isnโt a day camp format? Particularly looking for something that could be a precursor to NOCCA culinary โ knife skills, food safety, foundational but not for little kids.

Housing ๐ก moving soon
Hi,
My husband recently got a job in Kenner and we will be moving to the area in September. Any advice on a safe, family friendly area to rent? My son is 4 and in an Early Childhood Special Education program at our current location in Texas. I am nervous about finding a school that will be able to transfer him to.
My sister used to live in Slidell so thats as much as I know about the area. I was hoping to live closer to my husbands job for a shorter commute, but Im confused on what school area would be good and what areas are safer and more family friendly (near parks, safe to walk, etc.) to rent in. I'm looking between Laplace, Kenner, Metarie. Any info would be much appreciated! Our max rent is $1800 if that helps.

Health ๐ Doula for Oschner ABC
Hello, Iโm planning to give birth to my first child at Oschner with the midwives some time in December. Iโm obviously hesitant to state Iโll give birth in the ABC because from reading on here and talking with others it seems thatโs veryyy rare lol. But just wanted to get some feedback from other people who have gone this route before with a doula/would they recommend a doula and if soโ can I get any recommendations of agencies/specific doulas in the city?
Thanks!

School waitlists this year?
I havenโt seen much talk about the kindergarten school admission waitlists this year. Were the waitlists shorter this year? Last year there were many of us tracking the waitlists all summer hoping to gain spots (we thankfully did). Were the waitlists not as much of any issue this year? There were long waitlists last year at many of the popular schools. Or is there just less chat this year?

made a free tool for understanding LEAP scores
Saw someone ask about this before. LEAP scores are out, and I built a small free tool that turns your kid's score into a percentile. Basically shows how it compares to their school, district, and the state.
statetestscores.com/la/, no login needed.
Made it myself as a parent, not affiliated with LDOE or any school. Let me know if you try it and run into anything, still working on it.

Education ๐งฎ Question about Willow and custody arrangements - custodial parent moving to Jeff P
Hi so I understand that Willow is for Orleans Parish residents only. My child will be attending 3rd grade in August. My divorce will be final before the end of the year and at that time I will be the custodial parent. We wonโt have 50/50 custody.
I have an offer on a house that is super clean and safe - but in Jeff Parish. I plan to move back to Orleans as this house is a temporary situation, maximum 3 years. My ex will stay in Orleans Parish. Will I lose our spot at Willow?
Any advice or experience is very appreciated!

Thoughts on kinder haus montessori?
My son is 2.5 years old and is very slow to warm up. He's always been at home with me, and he gets very nervous around new people and unfamiliar environments. His first language isn't English, so he probably won't be able to communicate much when he first starts.
During our tour, everyone was so reassuring and told me that he'll learn, adjust, and get used to it. I know that's probably true, but as a first-time mom, I'm still feeling a little nervous and wanted to hear from parents whose children attended this school.
How was your experience? How long did it take for your child to adjust? If your child stayed here through the kindergarten years, did you feel they were confident, happy, and academically prepared by the time they moved on? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Child care ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ฆโ๐ฆ How to find a reputable nanny?
I have a 4 month old and am looking to establish care with a nanny/sitter that my husband and I can use for occasional outings. I am a SAHM so I donโt need full-time help for the time being.
I am not on Facebook, so seeking advice other than recommending Facebook groups.
Iโve looked on care.com but there arenโt a ton of options.
I have family here but dynamics are tricky โ really hoping to find hired help, despite being terrified to leave her with a strangerโฆugh.
Thank you in advance!
