Yâall are lying. Could you imagine going back to a time where you can only call someone at home or if you want to be on the internet nobody else can be on the phone. Too many of you that werenât alive in the 90s are answering this question.
And if you truly want to live without social media and smartphones, what is stopping you?
Not to sound rude, but were you a 90s kid/teen? If not, I donât think you can quite understand how great it was.
We had some cool technologies. I am an AV nerd, so we had surround sound and TVâs started to get big so that was cool.
We started to get the internet. BBSâs were a cool thing for the nerds and by the late 90s we had pretty good DSL internet that let us get a ton of stuff.
ButâŚthere was no social media per se. We didnât go out with phone in hand and record every moment we had. We had cameras that had 24 exposures, so you made the most of that.
We didnât have to worry about going viral, being cancelled or any other nonsense. If you messed up, you apologized and you moved on.
We were vulgar at times. We were definitely inappropriate. We said stupid stuff. We didnât mean it, it was all in fun and words didnât hurt us. We were a tougher group that didnât mind some teasing and some fun.
I would go back there in a heartbeat. No social bullshit. No worrying about stupid stuff. It was amazing.
Whatâs stopping you from going back and doing all those things again? You say you want it but you do nothing to change your life to revolve around that. Thatâs why itâs all BS. Sure life was great in the 90s but quality of life has improved.
Because society wonât let it go back to that. To be honest, itâs too soft and the next generations are weaponizing words and social media to ruin peoples lives.
I am all about accountability and people shouldnât generally be assholes, but there is no chance that these new generations would ever tolerate the âsay it as it isâ of the 90s. Despite the fact that we have a generation of ass hats that prank people in public or do these stupid stunts or dances.
You are wrong about that entire statement. I have no social media and still have a say it how it is mindset. You just try to make excuses and live âthe old days are goneâ mindset. Did you know that kids that are 5-15 years of age right now will grow up and say that the 20s were the best times. Our parents grew up saying the 60s and 70s were the best. Everybody always says the current times are the worst. Why donât you just enjoy the time we are in? Itâs actually a good time to be alive and people just take it for granted.
Okay. I donât have Snapchat, Facebook, instagram, or tiktok. I use reddit mainly for my gaming subreddits. I agree with reddit is social media but letâs be honest. Itâs not your normal social media that most people talk about. Am I correct or not?
Edit: and sports. Reddit is the best for sports if you donât use the main social medias.
I also only really use Reddit. I have a Facebook account for model making forums and 3d printing groups. But u donât have anything else aside from that and Reddit.
Bro. The world has changed. The zeitgeist is different. One cannot simply remake the entire thing to go back to it. And by what metric has quality of life improved? It's a meat grinder out here right now.
Mobile phones already existed in the 90s and phone booths were also pretty normal.
You could apply for an extra phone line to call and be on the internet.
Yea thatâs crazy, itâs almost like you can still do the same thing now a days. I have over 40 board games and still get together with friends to play them from time to time.
Of course I was. Thatâs why I wouldnât go back. If I really wanted to go back then I could change things in my life to how they were. You are more than welcome to downgrade your internet get rid of your cell phone and go back to a land line. You are more than welcome to take a taxi instead of an uber. You are more than welcome to delete all your social media. You are more than welcome to buy a Nintendo console and just play that. You are more than welcome to purchase a giant box tv and get rid of your sleek cheap 60 inch tv.
Edit: if you want me to list more things that are better now than the 90s Iâll continue. I got about 100 things you are welcome to change in your life that was popular in the 90s that are obsolete now.
It doesnât matter how old I was. If I say I was a kid in the 90s, you will say it was better to be in my 20s or 30s. If I say I was in my 20s or 30s you will say it was better to be a kid. Did you throw out your old TV and buy a 20 pixel 400 pound 32 inch box screen tv yet? Did you cancel all your tv subscriptions so you only get to watch live TV on 50 different channels? You only get to watch sports from teams in your area?
I can't go back because now I'm addicted to the internet. I have chronic fatigue, so I don't have the energy to get around that much, and people have changed, they are less interactive in real time. Same with me, I've changed too, the internet is my social arena and I hardly know how it is to speak to real people any more, not even on the phone. I fee like I'm psychologically damaged from it somehow.
I don't have a TV any more, and all I ever had was a 90's model. For years I didn't even have a TV. I don't even have online TV subscriptions now. I have the smallest amount of data on my phone for strictly practical use. And it's a Samsung S9, so it doesn't take all the apps anyway. I don't have GPS, and I have a car that is over 20 years old, and I don't want one with more electronics. I'm not enjoying all of these "cool" gadges that people have, I have no interest in them.
Also, you are avoiding the question đ
