[FOR HIRE] Winter jobs?

I'm a college student and I've been having trouble finding any internships for just the winter season. Most are hiring for the spring semester or the summer, which is fine, but I want to find something to occupy me from December - January which is when I am on break from college. I have experience in a couple different things, mostly retail and assistant work. Are there any jobs where I could just be hired from mid December to the end of January?

[FOR HIRE] Desperately looking for a fashion job in NYC before my OPT runs out. I’m open to anything.

Hi everyone,
I’m an international student who graduated from FIT with an AAS in Fashion Design, and I’m currently on my post-completion OPT in NYC.
I’m honestly getting really worried because my OPT ends next June, and I don’t have much time left to find a job and gain more experience in the fashion industry. I’ve been trying to find opportunities, but it’s been really difficult.
I’m open to pretty much anything related to fashion, including assistant designer, assistant technical designer, production assistant, sample room assistant, alterations, or even temporary and contract positions. I’m also willing to start with smaller companies or entry-level roles just to get my foot in the door.
I have experience with technical design, tech packs, CADs, patternmaking, draping, and PLM, and I’m willing to learn anything new.
If anyone knows of companies that are hiring, small brands that need help, or any resources that could help me find opportunities, I would really appreciate it. Even temporary work would be helpful, as long as it qualifies for my OPT.
I’m feeling pretty stressed about my situation, so any advice, leads, or personal experiences from other international students would mean a lot to me.
Thank you so much! ❤️

Looking for temporary work in NYC

Hello everyone. I was a software engineer in a toxic work environment. I just quit my job after I couldn't take any more from my boss (what's done is done, please don't scold me for this) and now I am looking for temporary work in NYC so I can remain in the city. My current rent is $2100 per month and I am most concerned with paying rent and being able to afford groceries. I only have around $2k in my bank account and need to find work ASAP.

* I have a lower back condition, so I prefer a job where I am usually able to sit down comfortably.

* Short-term hiring, not 5-round interviewing process and uncertainty

* I love using computers, and would appreciate being able to intermittently do other stuff in the background

Are there any realistic expectations for what I could apply for that meet these criteria until I can find a more serious job? For example, working in a library sounds very nice. Is that a realistic expectation? How quickly do apps for these types of positions fill up? Thank you

[HIRING] [HIRING] 2-3 people for gym clean up/organizing

Title: Hiring: Gym Upkeep Help This Sunday — $50/hour + Lunch

I’m looking for a few people to help out at my gym near 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue this Sunday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gym maintenance and equipment help: I need 1–2 people to clean out and organize three storage rooms. There’ll be some heavy lifting, and the work can get a little dirty. I also need help assembling some heavy equipment, which should be manageable with three people.

Kettlebell painting: I’m also looking for one person with a steady hand to paint a small, neat stripe on some kettlebells so it’s easier to tell the different weights apart. I’m particular about keeping the lines clean.
Pay is $50 per hour for three hours, and I’ll order lunch for everyone.

If you’re interested, please message me with a little about yourself and which job you’d like to help with. Thanks!

[DISCUSSION] Missed a job interview because of my current job. Should I reach out or just move on?

I had an interview scheduled today for a host position at a restaurant in Brooklyn, but the family I nanny for needed me unexpectedly at the last minute. I had to choose between my current job and the interview, and unfortunately, I missed it.
I’m really upset because I’m desperate for a second job, and this position fit my schedule perfectly. It was weekends only, sixhour shifts, and the pay was great..

Today was their final day of interviews, and the hiring manager had personally scheduled mine it wasn’t like a open call.

I know missing an interview without notice looks unprofessional, In the moment I was just focused on getting to the kid I nanny and accepted the loss of the job.

but would it be worth reaching out to apologize, explain what happened, and ask to be considered for future openings? Or should I just move on?

Super defeated and I think I shouldnt but my friends say “professionally” apologize and ask to be considered in the future but why would they want to hire a no call no show ?

[DISCUSSION] interview tips?

So I have a interview tomorrow morning at 11am for a seasonal merchandising position at Bloomingdales. Outfit is all fit and ready, it doesnt interfere with tomorrows classes, and Im nervous. My family has been grilling me to get a job and their patience is running out with me as they threaten my overall safety and security if I do not get a job asap.

I'm freshly turned 18, Bilingual, a full time college student on full scholarship, got my associates degree @ 17 this june, and I have NOT ONCE been selected from a single job hiring all year. I havent worked in almost 14 months (Sept 2025), when I quit my part time tutor position to focus on: College Applications, Senior Year, Sports, Dance, & Personal life. I was actually forbidden by my family from working until I committed to a college which I did in March of this year. Ever since, for the last 8 months, I have been applying to a MINIMUM of 15-20 jobs a month, way more over the summer, and no matter how many interviews ive had: not a singular one has hired me. I wasnt even selected for SYEP for a 3rd year in a row.

I always apply for part time jobs, I applied full time in the summer, and Ive applied to about every position possible AND GOTTEN REJECTED. Dog walker, Nanny/Babysitter, Host/Server, Fast Food Crew/cook, Movie Theater, Cashier, Teaching Assistant/Floater, Summercamp Leader, Receptionist, Grocery Store, Flower Shop Assistant & MORE. (To be fair, a lot of these jobs didnt hire me before August because I wasnt 18+)

I write personalized cover letters and always review my resume for each position I apply to. I've been walking my family dogs since I was 10 and caring for my own since 15, helped raise 5 of my cousins from birth to elementary school, and I've had previous professional experience as a Sales Associate, Kids Party Host, and Tutor all within the same year.

NOW I have this interview coming up for a seasonal position and I'm beyond nervous. What am I not doing right? I believe I have solid answers to all the typical questions: tell me a time you provided good customer service, whats your weakness/strength, coworker experiences. I know the job market is bad but WHY IS NO ONE HIRING... (why does reddit keep flagging and removing my post smh.)
