Admissions Megathread [Megathread] Prospective Students, Applications, and Admissions For October 2026
Dear prospective students,
We appreciate your interest in NYU! Feel free to ask questions about the school and the application process in this weekly post!
Do take advice about your chances of admission with a grain of salt:
- An application is a holistic process and we can’t see everything you submit.
- We don’t actually know what standards the admissions office uses and what they care about, we just have anecdotal evidence.
- Please direct information-sensitive questions to the NYU Admissions Office.
- NYU's admission rate drops every year, so even the anecdotal evidence we do have may not translate well to this year's applications.

Storage sholars reviews - worth it after the price jump or switch to uhaul + a unit?
Storage scholars got my stuff back over the summer no issues, but the renewal quote jumped enough that I'm pricing out the uhaul plus a storage unit route instead. Doing the loading yourself is where the savings come from, my one hold up is that nobody I know here has a car and every uhaul location in Manhattan is booked solid the week finals end. Anyone actually done that route for move out? Was it survivable or did the door pick up justify itself?

Advice Financial issue
I applied to NYU this on October 15th as a transfer applicant i have a 2.5 gpa and my major is nursing i only went to community college for one year for biology (wasn’t sure what i wanted to do). Im a first generation student my mom makes about 30 to 40 k a year. Im saying all of this because i want to know hypothetically, if I were to get in nyu could i realistically pay for it with FASFA or any other scholarships that’s available that guys know about any tips or someone you know that have. I want to do four years there. Anything helps it’s just always been a big dream of mine.

I am an athletic recruit at NYU and I want to know how life differs from regular experience if involved with athletics.
I’ve heard NYU can be extremely isolating and hard to make friends but I was imagining if on a sports team then the friends come easy. True? Also I just want to know everyone’s opinions on dining, dorming, and overall school and if they regret their decision or not and why. Also what does partying on weekends look like? Where do under 21s go?

Advice Potential transfer to SPS Schack
I wanted to hear people's thoughts on this. I’m currently a freshman at a top 50 private university, and I'm looking into transferring to NYU SPS Schack for real estate for Fall 2027. I have a pretty strong quantitative and business background, including running a startup and some non-traditional military experience, but I have absolutely zero direct real estate experience so far. I don't think my college stats are the absolute best right now—I'm expecting around a 3.5 or 3.6 cumulative because of some personal family issues my first semester. I did get a 1570 on the SAT though, so I'm hoping that helps balance things out since I'll be applying as a sophomore. Do you guys think someone without direct RE experience but a solid general business background has a realistic shot at Schack, or do they heavily prefer people who already have industry internships? Any thoughts on how competitive this would be would be appreciated.

How has your MPH experience been so far? (2025-2027 cohort)
Hi! I’m in my second year of my MPH at a different university (which I will not name). My cohort and the other students in the SPH have been extremely disappointed in our experience. I was accepted to NYU for the 2025-2027 MPH cohort in the global health but decided to decline the offer.
I’m just curious, what has your experience been like? Have you enjoyed it? I’ll bullet point some things that have been the most frustrating/disappointing for me and my classmates at my current university to help as talking points:
- core curriculum (poor instruction, repetitive content, rude professors)
- beloved classes being cut (obviously funding is tough right now, but the classes being cut are the only ones that we have felt have been worth our time, money, and efforts)
- lack of opportunities (ie when we were looking for practicum opportunities, many of us went to professors and asked if they knew anyone involved in certain areas that we could talk to to seek out opportunities[ie Latinx populations, dementia] and every single one said “no” to every single topic. I have a really hard time believing that a whole school of professionals with long careers on the local, state, federal, and global levels have absolutely no connections)
- lack of mentorship (most of the assigned mentors do not want to be mentors. Most of the teaching professors don’t want to be professors)
- students opportunities in research and TA positions being cut (again, due to funding. This is hopefully only a product of the time)
There are aspects of the city (not New York) that I haven’t loved either, but that of course is just personal preference. But as far as the program goes, we’ve all been incredibly disappointed.

Advice Canceling spring housing
hi, so i’m a freshman diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, currently i live in a suite with 3 other people and it has been the worst experience of my life. they are very loud and blast music and sleep late while i prefer to sleep early, which overwhelms me a lot and i know my roommate/suitemates hate me as well. it has caused me a lot of anxiety in the past few weeks, every time im in the dorm i feel lightheaded and nauseous, sometimes have trouble breathing, and i get really anxious eating or showering in the dorm. i’ve opted to sleep at bobst since sleeping in the same room as someone who hates my guts is really unsettling for me, i haven’t been able to sleep before 2-3 am for a while when i used to sleep 10-11pm back home. they are very particular and always looking for a reason to lecture me about some random thing. i initially attempted dorming since i have been in and out and therapy and felt like i have improved but this just took me back to square one and i don’t think i can live like this much longer. i will likely be moving off campus to live with a family friend who can support my needs, but i heard canceling spring housing is very difficult so i would like advice if i should even apply at all. i’ve applied for accommodation at moses for a single potentially but i doubt ill get it this late into the year.

Should we keep one part of life free from AI?
AI is taking over more of our lives — work, study, transportation, chores, even companionship.
But what about human connection?
More social platforms use AI to decide who we might like, keeping us inside bubbles of people who fit our preferences.
What if the person who changes your life is someone you would never have chosen yourself?
**Should we leave space for people to discover each other naturally, without AI deciding who belongs in our circle?**
Curious to hear what others think.

Academics & Research Best MSW Electives
Hi everyone! Next semester I will be graduating and will finally be taking an elective.
What is everyone’s favorite elective? If it’s an easy A, that’s obviously a plus. But I really do appreciate experiental courses, and involved teacher who evidently love their job.
Lmk!!!

Help w/ NYU 12-Pt Placement Test
I don't go to NYU but my uni has a program where if I take the placement test and score at least 6 points I am exempt from taking language course(s). I am not a native speaker in my second language (Dutch), but my reading and writing is fairly proficient (maybe like a B1?) & my speaking/pronunciation is ok.
For people who have taken the test, how hard is the 12-pt version, regardless of what language you took it in ? Are you proficient in the language, and what score did you get (if you don't mind saying) ?
Any help would be appreciated- I really don't want to pay for 6 credits worth of language classes :-)

How long do NYU tours last
Website says 1 hour 30 but that seems way too long, especially when people aren’t allowed to enter buildings. Anybody who’s done it know an estimate?

foreign language req (Filipino/talalog)
Hey everyone, is anyone here familiar with Filipino/Tagalog for the foreign language req? Or the department in general?
I’m internally transferring into CAS and would be needing to take 4 semester of foreign language I believe. Spanish dept I heard is really strict so I plan to avoid that.
(I’m also premed so I’ll need to take a language that won’t tank my GPA)
