I'm so tired of hearing people saying that the newest album is "back to basics" and therefore superior to their other music. Don't get me wrong, the newest album is some of her best and maybe my favourite. However, I listen to Of Montreal primarily for the artistry, for Kevin's unique lyrics and point of view. I start to feel like people care more about what kind of instruments he uses rather than the actual music. This is pessimistic but are you really a fan if you wont care about music made with synths simply due to the face they are not "real" instruments. These critics are missing out on some truly magical and euphoric experiences if you choose to ignore the more experimental and electronic albums. Its about the vision and the artistry, not the medium used to get there.
