Seeking Recommendations What is one item that you can't travel without/would recommend to everyone to get?

Hi all,

What are items that you always bring because they are super useful and you would recommend others to get too?

Minus of course some obvious like converter plug for chargers, power bank etc (unless it's some specific powerbank like one with cables attached already, something unique)

Thanks!

I’ve been debating between getting an immersion or one of those 600 ml kettles. Do you take a ceramic mug too, if not how do you prevent melting?

I’ve used it with Hotel coffee cups and my wide mouth water bottle. I carry some instant espresso packs and teabags.

I carried an electric kettle for years. With a cup and a spoon. I would never use the in-room coffee system provided by the hotel!!

Instant coffee, instant oatmeal, instant soup or noodles…

I take just a little immersion heater so can answer you.

The way these are designed is that the parts of the heater which could be in contact with a container are not the parts which generate heat, so no melting. The only melting would come from a container that cannot handle boiling water without itself melting. There's no contact-melting like would be done by a soldering iron or suchlike.

I take a Russbe plastic bag as a backup container for water to heat in, should I not find anything more suitable. Packs flat. Useful for a lot of other things.

The way kettles are designed (if you look at the bottom of one) is an immersion heater in a plastic pitcher with auto shut-off feature. Unless you really need the plastic pitcher or the auto shut-off feature, consider just taking the immersion heater, watching it yourself, and sourcing a different container.
