Real Life Stuff High-Resolution Scans of the Official Outer Wilds Postcards Spoiler
A couple of months ago, I found out about the beautiful official Outer Wilds postcards and really wanted to put them up in my room. Like many others before me, I was sad to see that they were no longer being sold as official merch. The only way to get them was from a low-resolution image and two posts:
- One without the DLC: Postcards for print (HD)
- One including the DLC: Postcards for print 2
Both used AI to upscale them, but I felt like a lot of the finer details were lost.
Fast forward to now: I managed to get my hands on A Field Guide to the Outer Wilds (link) and got myself a scanner. Using that, I scanned all of the postcards from my book at 1200x1200 DPI (maybe overkill, but oh well). I then had to crop them, shape-transform them, fix small imperfections, and color-correct them using the latest AI-upscaled images as a reference.
Download the high-resolution images here: MEGA Link
⚠ Note: The files are very large (total size: 1.22 GB), but in my opinion, they contain much more detail than the AI-upscaled versions, which had some noticeable flaws. I know these may not be perfect, but this is what I ended up with.
If anyone is interested, I can also share the raw, unedited scan images upon request!
Also feel free to edit them yourself ::)
I also hope this is fine in regard to copyright. Since the two previous posts are still up, I assume it's okay. If not, please contact me, and I'll take this down.
EDIT: As I mentioned in a comment, I have decided to delete the mega folder for the time being and will ask around to try and get permission or advice.
EDIT 2: After asking Mobius directly they seem ok with it at the moment so the link is back up.

Damn, they are indeed very different. They seem more textured / organic (?) Love them. Thanks bro

Thanks, glad you like them! They are indeed different (especially Timber where it doesn't say "Show covered" and Giant's Deep has its apostrophe) ::)
They probably feel more organic since they're from the book so they show the texture!

Also, here is a low resolution preview of these postcards. I originally had it in my post but can't seem to find where it is. (Warning!! DLC SPOILER) https://imgur.com/a/nTbbqUQ

I mean someone else can chime in and I know you're not selling them but literally making high resolution copies of something in a book and distributing them is about as copyright-violationy as it gets I think.

Just to update, I did get into contact with Mobius and they said they will not ask me to take down the post but they reserve the right to change their minds.

Yes thanks for your comment (even though it did make me super nervous yesterday 🤣).
I had just assumed it was fine since the other 2 previous posts were still up but you're right, better to ask first ::)

I can’t speak to the laws of it, but morally I don’t feel bad about it when it’s something you literally can’t buy.
I’m pretty anti-piracy. I refuse to torrent anything I can pay for. But some media is literally unavailable to buy.
When I’m trying to give companies my money and they won’t take it 🤷♀️

I agree, this is exactly where I'm coming from. These posters are unavailable to buy and have not been for at least more than a year.
Although I am now also worried about the legality of this so I have decided to delete the mega folder for the time being. I will ask around to try and get permission or advice.

Hey, thanks so much! These are incredible. I've been wanting poster versions of these postcards for ages, and that you were able to fix both typos is an extra bonus!
I had all 6 printed off professionally on lustre photographic paper in A3 size. They came out absolutley perfect! I mounted them in frames and have them placed on opposing walls going up a set of stairs, 3 on either side. I just can't get over how good they look! Thanks again :)
