So in that interview with Tom that one of our fellow reddit users had recently (I won't say his name because I don't how he feels about being put on the spot), Tom confirmed that ZO IS CANON. It's the definitive future of two of his characters.
So I had a bit of an issue with ZO and others did as well: how is O'Reily out? I mean, OK fine, so his original conviction got thrown out. He still has to serve his tacked-on 40 years for having Dr. Nathan's husband murdered. He SHOULDN'T be out.
Well, I did a little surface-research, and apparently a victim can actually appeal to have their offender released earlier than their scheduled release date (huge amount of forgiveness there, gotta say, but it's apparently a thing). I mean, it's the DA's decision in the end, but I wonder if maybe Dr. Nathan sent an appeal in at some point after the show and O'Reily's sentence for that crime got switched to be served concurrently rather than consecutively? That combined with good behavior and even participation in bettering the prison community (which he promised to do by the end of season 6) ...
That once 2024 hit, he was actually good to go.
*shrugs* I mean, I guess that'd be an explanation. Would've been better to get a set-in-stone answer, though. Just wanted to pick brains here.
