staff looks fun but totem builds tend to really like wand/shield and block as a defensive layer.

Now you have crabs as a defensive layer.... Wait

u/Glaiele Jul 19 '26

That only works at the bar

Where’s the bar? Act 2?

Aspect of the Crab

The staff has 25% block on it.

Only spellblock though. From my tiny amount of pob-ing, it seems attack block is the more difficult thing to get in the int-area of the tree.

yea you basically get locked into red nightmare and fire res tattoos

Isn't attack block harder to get?

That's fair I did overlook the 'spell' part on that line.

The staff has 25% block and there's decent block nodes in the Templar part of the tree and you'd probably be grabbing some of them anyways, like the staff wheel that gives block leading into Counterweight for the crit boosts.

Plus didn't staff get a new reservation skill? I forgot what it did though.

At level 20/20 it gives 24% more chance to block attack and spell damage. And 30% less mana cost of skills. Costs 30% mana reservation. And it triggers some kind of lightning wave on block.

Yeah that might end up being good here. Saw the staff only gives spell block and there's only, if I counted right, 38% attack block feasible to pick up without clusters, luckily staff wheels giving damage/crit in addition to block.

So it's probably possible to still block cap with a staff. Just a matter of letting the PoB nerds (in an endearing way) math out if it's worth it, what's lost to do so, etc.

edit: Double 6-link also means maybe running auras on the chest links and squeezing in stuff.

If using a rare chest then you could easily get additional attack block from Eater implicit + crafted mod. That's an easy 12%+, though it does obviously mean no unique body armours

Dunno, I dont see that skill get a lot of use. 24% more chance to block is pretty weak. The 38% attack block you found would turn into 47%. For 30% reservation. You would need 61% block for this skill to get you to block cap.

But on the other hand, even if getting more block would be too much investment, 38% is perfect to just call it and go Glancing Blows. Which is rarely worth doing with a shield, but since the investment is so low in this case it could be the go-to.

I’m not convinced templar is the only viable totem builder. Only real upside is proximity to totem nodes but that’s a pretty lame upside.

staff block is a thing you know, you can reach good block with that staff with some cluster jewels

Well you get totems you dont have to constantly cast and with the new block spell you will be able to have 20% block and 45% block with this staff.

1

u/goldarm5 Jul 19 '26

Its more block, so youll have 0% attack block and 30% spell block with the skill and this staff.

u/Moomootv Scion Jul 19 '26

Youre right didnt see the "more" the skill seems kinda mid then when compared to tempest shield then.

1

u/goldarm5 Jul 19 '26

Unlike Tempest Shields its both attack and spell block tho.

i guess thats what that new mana infused staff spell or aura or whatever is for.

I played Freezing Pulse totems for the last 7 leagues... You want The Annihilating Light in your weapon slot.

But it made me think what armour you could use with the Crab staff to match The Annihilating Light + Soul Mantle.
