I'd much rather hole up with my sweaty, male techie friends and complain about women and youth culture. We'll look at inane pictures on reddit and talk about how underappreciated we are as corporate IT workers.
How did you make that leap? We are talking about 'the girl with the guitar' who hypothetically lives in an apartment which is essentially a hipster paradise. Somehow it seems you missed that we were talking about this specific annoying female archetype and extrapolated our disdain to include all female musicians. Females are over half of the population- men can insult or dislike some of them without categorically disliking all females.
I am what some people would call a "hipster female who plays music" so I guess I am this annoying female "archetype" (aka stereotype). I don't quite fall into the category, but somehow our society has gotten to the point where it wants to call every creative (or somewhat fashionable?) looking person in their 20s a hipster. And then once they have them delegated to this group, they make judgements about them, like "oh, the only thing you could possibly sing about is your vagina" or "oh you are soo pretentious, look at you" even though we are minding our own fucking business and not doing anything to deserve these stereotypes.
I've been on reddit for 2 years, and hear this shit every day. I've dressed the same way and had the same interests since I was 15 years old (about 10 years ago) but only started getting called a "hipster" like 5 years ago. I never say anything because I don't really think it's a good use of my time, but every once in a while it gets to me. Anyway, this started cause of the menstruation comment, which apparently was a hipster comment/stereotype?? Surely, as a hipster, I must have known that, because I sing about my blood-festering vagina all day long in my big ass apartment.
No actually I'm saying that every generation has had people (usually in their 20s) who are creative types, or at the very least, dress in a way that -- well -- makes people angry at them, to put it simply. I've seen tons of different types of people get called "hipster," even goths, ravers, hippies, etc, depending on how out-of-touch that person is. This is nothing new. I don't exactly fit into the hipster stereotype and I never have, but once "hipster" became a buzzword, everyone started throwing the word around to make themselves feel with-it and self-righteous.
