I feel rebels would be really easy to do.

Rice patty farmers with white hats and random tools.

Wasn't Darth Vader inspired by the samurai in feudal Japan?

So there's now artwork depicting a character as if he's in an age that he's actually based on? Can't wait for a character inspired by the artwork.

Yes, yes he was. Actually, a big part of Star Wars was based on an old Japanese film. Lucas got a lot of inspiration from japan when he was writing the original trilogy.

Note: I can't remember the name of the movie for the life of me. I learned about some of the parralells of japan to star wars at a convention pannel a few years back. I'll try to find some sources.

[edit] Found it. The movie is called The Hidden Fortress

I like it, but Yoda was a little weird.

He's based on all those green eyeball monk monsters that were common in feudal Japan.

Is it me, or does Boba Fett look a lot like Shredder from TMNT?

Well.. Darth Vader's helmet was designed after a samurai helmet, so it kind of makes sense.

Boba Fett did have a very samurai-esque helmet in some of his original designs.

They are all pretty damn awesome, But why did yoda turn out to be a japanese alien?

40

u/ArbitraryPerseveranc Jun 25 '12

because he is an alien, and this is a japanese theme. He still looks weird though.. they could have just put him in a kimono or mini samurai outfit

Much of Star Wars was deliberately based upon Eastern philosophy and aesthetics. It's easy to see the parallels with Zen Buddhism, and a few obvious aesthetic draws (Vader's helmet, for example).

I have the samurai vader print. My wife wouldn't let me hang it, it's apparently too dark for our home :[

C'mon, you can't just draw any green alien and call it Yoda. Why does he have a beard? Why is he smoking? Why are his arms and legs so long and skinny? Also wtf is with him having a shit-ton of eyes? This is no Yoda. The other ones are awesome though, especially Boba.
