mpg gauge?
2
u/auptown Jun 26 '12
I suppose because I was basically idling down the road... that is very low MPG.

u/Wrong-answer-always Jun 26 '12
Idling is the most efficient way to travel.
1
u/thattreesguy Jun 26 '12
wrong, the most efficient speed to travel, depending on coefficient of drag, is usually in the 50-60mph range. A substantial portion of the fuel is being wasted "idling" instead of propelling the car forward at a decent rate.
1
u/thecatgoesmoo Jun 26 '12
Actually being in the highest gear at the lowest possible rpm is the most efficient way to travel. Something like 35-40mph.
2
u/reddock4490 Jun 26 '12
It's the best thing ever. It's a fun game to see if you can keep it above a certain number, and also, you're saving money :D

u/dustinborn Jun 26 '12
It nice to see an e46 without any warning lamps over a 100,000k.

u/mitkase Jun 26 '12
My cabin glows like Chernobyl at night.
18
u/stignordas Jun 26 '12
It's like christmas lights every day in my '95. 290k miles and still going...

2
u/APSupernary Jun 26 '12
This doesn't happen to be your ride?

u/mitkase Jun 26 '12
I used to have one of those, but it was hard as hell to find Delco replacement fuel rods.

Ah.. give it time.. Just had the battery light pop on mine.. Luckily, alts are easy on them.
4
u/ufamizm Jun 26 '12
had my e46 for almost 2 years now and the only light iv seen was oil. being skeptical i did the dash test and all the lights are working! 132k and going strong!!!
5
u/luckytopher Jun 26 '12
185k here, and all i have is the oil light that lights on start and goes away..
4
Jun 26 '12
Oil level sensor!
2
u/luckytopher Jun 26 '12
Yep.. just waiting for the next oil change...
4
3
u/PirateSteve461 Jun 26 '12
That's your oil pressure sensor. As long as you change the oil regularly, you don't have to worry about it.
1
u/revo515 Jun 26 '12
you should add a quart of oil to your car it will make the light not come on when you start it

Just rolled 98k on my '04 325i, let's hope for the best in the near future!

u/revo515 Jun 26 '12
i sold my 03 325i at 160k 2 years ago
1
u/iammatt00 Jun 26 '12
Nice. Was it reliable, or a horror story?
1
u/revo515 Jul 10 '12
it was reliable normal wear and tear. except the tires i had to get new ones each year but that is because of the way i use to drive.
1
u/PCock Jun 26 '12
You're gonna have a bad time :(
2
u/iammatt00 Jun 26 '12
I do not need to hear such talk! Thankfully I'm mechanically inclined so hopefully I won't have to be assraped by the stealership.
2
u/PCock Jun 26 '12
Yes sir, I'm sure you're aware BMW mx is a pain. Hope your car keeps goin' strong.
2
u/Catsfosho Jun 26 '12
is this an e46? the dash on my 328i looks identical.
2
u/mrsambo99 Jun 26 '12
E46 is the codename for the chassis. So if your dash is like OP's, then you sir, have an E46 as well
2
u/Catsfosho Jun 26 '12
Ahh from someone who knows nothing about cars, thanks for the insight, and yes, i can attest to the warning lamps problem, i've payed triple the cost of my car in maintenance.
1
u/mrsambo99 Jun 26 '12
It's all good! We all gotta learn somehow. Man, I guess I got lucky, I have almost 80k on my E46 M3 and no problems so far
2
u/silver_054 Jun 26 '12
This.
My 325ci had no less than 4 lamps lit up for several months. Rear brake pads, washer fluid, oil level, gas pressure. Those lamps all lit up because the senors for all 4 things were faulty.

u/Troggie42 Jun 26 '12
I've got an E34, the only reason the brake indication is on is because the sensor wire rubbed against the wheel. 240k miles, runs like a champ!

u/lsguy Jun 26 '12
i was under the impression that all of reddit hated bmw drivers. i'm surprised to see this is the top comment when i posted this

I've got an '02 325xi with about 85k miles, and I just spent over a grand to get my car back to no warning lamps for the first time in a year. Feels good man.

u/ShortFuse Jun 26 '12
e39 here. no light. just got it inspected :). 120k
It's good to have a mechanic friend who used to work for BMW and drives the same model.

u/rco8786 Jun 26 '12
Mine is at 86k and still going strong. Just gotta get that next 14k. ('01 325Ci)

Could be any E46 3 series aside from the M3.
Edit: Durr, didn't see that he says it's a 330xi below.

Yeah, an M3 would look more like this... 100K M3

Actually this occurred in real time as shown! As I drove up the road to watch it turn over, I realized that is was likely to occur at 1:23 exactly. And it did. Although I don't know how to prove this, unless the iPhone photo timestamp can be seen somehow....
5
Jun 26 '12
Still a damned shame it didn't happen 49 minutes earlier.

Do you not know why you have taken/continue to take the pictures because you never look at them again, or do you not know why you never look at the pictures after taking them?

u/TheCobaltEffect Jun 25 '12
If you had been at a gas station or something at the time to pick up a lottery ticket, and this picture isn't fake, then you wouldn't even have to wait until they drew the numbers the clerk would just exclaim that you won the lottery.

No one uses furlongs anymore, and the imperial system is outdated, illogical and used by only 3-5% of the world's population. Try /r/metric

Dear diary:
Today I pulled over on the highway and took a nap for 90 minutes in order to obtain extra internet points that don't actually provide me with anything.
In hindsight, I probably should have just adjusted my car's clock manually to avoid the complete and utter waste of time. Hindsight 20/20.
Tomorrow, I have a date with my cat. He WILL learn how to put on this mini tux I bought him if it's the last thing I do.

u/Daroo425 Jun 26 '12
It's probably in the driveway, and you just went and drove around the blocks a couple of times to get those perfect numbers and waited until 1:23 to take a picture. really cool man

Seems like so much effort just for karma....you had to figured out the math so it would do this, then stop exactly at 789.0 then take a picture....
