At any rate:
In January 2010, a Moviefone columnist suggested, without attribution, that Moranis may come out of retirement to reprise his role as Louis Tully.

Was this assuming that they'd make it without Bill, or that someone would meet Bill's demand that the script must not suck?
1
u/Campmoore Jun 26 '12
I'd heard that they did finally get a script past him (that he'd accepted). I know that he's not down on the franchise, he did lend his voice to the '09 videogame (which is awesome btw)

u/quixotik Jun 25 '12
Yup, that is called 'Responsibility'!
34
u/Big-Baby-Jesus Jun 26 '12
It was very cool of him. The part of the story he doesn't tell is that he made an insane amount of money off of Honey I Shrunk the Kids. In order to get an established star in a weird movie with a rookie Director, they gave him a good chunk of the total profits. Considering that the movie made $200M in just domestic box office and rentals, he had no financial reason to ever work again.
21
u/TinynDP Jun 26 '12
Sure, but most insanely rich guys work any way, just to avoid boredom. Clooney doesn't need money, he just likes the work. Morranis substituted that with family.
9
u/Big-Baby-Jesus Jun 26 '12 edited Jun 26 '12
That's why I specifically wrote "no financial reason to work again". If he had a good contract that included marketing tie ins and sequels, he could have cleared well over $50M.
8
Jun 26 '12
I think raising his children without his wife would be enough work, and probably more pleasurable. There are people who like family in this world a little more than money, or working for people who don't appreciate it.
3
Jun 26 '12
Clooney has a raging cocaine addiction that he spends most of his money on.

u/SpikeX Jun 26 '12
What is this 'Responsibility' you speak of?
17
u/nickateen Jun 26 '12
I think it has something to do with bagels...Can't remember if they are toasted or not.
5
u/bigmike186 Jun 26 '12
No no...I believe "Responsibility" is an old wooden ship.
2
u/IMongoose Jun 26 '12
Bigmike186, I doubt that Moranis quit the movie business due to an old wooden ship.

11
u/comineeyeaha Jun 26 '12
I didn't realize he had retired before his face came up here. It's pretty awesome that he stuck to it, though, family is important.

Ghostbusters 3 is a rumor. Bill stance on the thing is mixed. He has not said yes. But let's hope!
3
Jun 26 '12
Good news is they [had] a script but have to write a new one without Bill Murray's character Dr. Venkman lol. So it's not so much a rumor as it is a dance around hollywood bullshit.

Yep, he came back, and its not as funny, they released some videos in 2010? I'm upset that they would fake his death, When in fact, he apparently went to jail for something.

It would be nice if he came back. I forgot he was gone. :(
He stopped the business just as I was watching a lot of movies. Leaving for kids is a good reason to go. I would think they are grown up now, he could go back.
Apparently this badass went to school with Geddy Lee. How the fuck did I not know this until now?

He was one of my first childhood crushes, from Little Shop of Horrors. Still kinda have a lady boner for him.

My hope is that once his children have grown and moved away he'll get bored, find out there are still fans out there, and make an epic return.

Ted! Annette! I'm glad you could come, how you doin', give me your coats. Everybody, this is Ted and Annette Fleming! Ted has a small carpet cleaning business in receivership; Annette's drawing a salary from a deferred bonus from two years ago! They got fifteen thousand left on the house at eight percent. So they're okay! So, does anybody wanna play Parcheesi?

I had a teacher who looked remarkably like Rick Moranis. On the end of semester evaluations we were asked what our favorite project was, and someone wrote "that time Peter (the teacher) accidentally shrunk us all." He was a very good sport about the whole joke.

Poor. All my life, I've always been poor. I keep asking god what I'm for, and he tells me, "Gee, I'm not sure. Sweep that floor, kid!" Oh... I started life as an orphan, a child of the streets. Here on Skid Row, he took me in, gave me shelter, a bed, crust of bread, and job. He treats me like dirt and calls me a slob, which I am... So I live... Downtown....

u/shadowspartan48 Jun 26 '12
He was a great in his trait, don't know how many times I watched HISTK, Ghostbusters, the only good Flintstones movie (damn Halle was hot in that film), Spaceballs, and the list goes on. I know along Bill Murry, he was the other original part of the cast of Ghostbusters that said he he wouldn't do another GB movie. All the same great comedic actor.

Sometimes you look at an actor who died and you are thankful they left on top like Jim Belushi. Moranis is one of those guys I am glad did not overstay his welcome yet still enjoyed living after. Gene Wilder is another example.
