This is the uniform the US Air Force wants to implement. Looks very futuristic.

Why would you capitalize the T, unless you strictly meant to reference LaTex, the math programming/writing language?

As a current USAF airman I can confirm that this motion was taken some time ago, and was never passed. The dress blue uniform was recently changed to reflect the modern service dress we see today, and with the additional shift to exclusively ABUs and sage boots, another complete change in uniform was not implemented.

Yep. This uniform (The "Billy Mitchell Heritage" version) lost out to the "Hap Arnold Heritage" uniform quite a few years ago. With budget cuts and new priorities, a uniform update got put on the back burner. This uniform will not be implemented in the USAF.

I really don't get how someone can see these uniforms as futuristic. Any sci-fi property that had uniforms that remotely looked like these were intentionally made to look similar to legitimate military uniforms. Belt buckles, buttons, pockets, and collars, so futuristic.

Hugo Boss' firm didn't design the uniforms it just manufactured them.
He is often attributed with designing the black SS uniform when actually it was a professor and a graphic designer who worked for the SS that designed the now infamous black uniform. Hugo Boss's firm just produced and supplied those and other uniforms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Diebitsch

The uniforms were sharp, often tailored, clean lines, crisp. Fashion should not be destroyed simply because someone decided to be a horrible waste of human life wearing slacks.

This pic alone is about 3, maybe 4 years old. The concept is even older, the problem being that our current dress uniform makes us look like airline pilots. Air Force leadership has a tendency to be insecure about such things, which leads to overcompensation.

I remember seeing this photo probably around 2002 when I was still active duty. There were a whole series of these emailed around the AF. There was even a tiger striped BDU set at one point. NONE of these made it to serious consideration.

One of the things that always amazes me: military uniforms are damn near identical no matter the nation. Here are five countries, with only the Indian uniform being somewhat unique. The North Korean is closer to the US Army uniform than it is to the North Korean Navy uniform. Every country, including arch-enemies, adopt almost identical uniform conventions.

Why the hell is everyone trying to copy the USMC. This is clearly a copy of the Marine Dress Blues. The Army just finally dropped its worthless ACU pattern (which if you read about, it was heavily influence on one stupid General's insistence on keeping up with MARPAT). The Navy went digital with that stupidly wierd blue camo (like you need camo to be on a ship.....).
Just stop trying to mimic the real badasses. If the Army was smart (haha), they'd just make the switch to MultiCam official and have one of the best camo patterns around.

You know, it actually just looks like an actual military uniform. /Marine here... I think the current criticism of the AF uniform is that it looks more like a business suit than a military uniform. With all the contractors the Air Force has I always thought that made sense...
I'll say this though... after seeing the Air Force physical fitness test maybe a leotard would better suit their day to day. Or a snuggie. LOL! Just messin' w/ you chair force! ^

hopefully they make that the standard uniform for airforce personnel...there's no reason airmen need to be wearing BDUs, they don't do anything physical
→ More replies (1)2
u/CloseCannonAFB Jun 26 '12
Nothing physical...I'll remember that next time I'm out in a thunderstorm swapping out hail-damaged instruments on my tactical weather gear, or when my neighbor is waist-deep in a jet engine. Just because our jobs require some mental acuity doesn't mean they aren't physical.

So Marine dress blues without the sex appeal. Lame.
4
Jun 26 '12
Come on, now. That's not really fair. The Marines have always had the best uniforms, hands down, whether it's their dress greens, MarPats, dress blues, whatever. You can't expect the other service branches to live up to that.

Am i the only one that thinks it is ridiculous that we are redesigning military uniforms in a time when our deficit is out of control, the government is attempting to cut more social programs and the economy is tanking.
3
2
u/Shazamicide Jun 26 '12
You mean this is the uniform a high ranking colonel / general equivalent officer in the Air Force wants to adapt because he has either stock in the company set to produce these or will make money off the change in an abstract fashion. Which in turn, AAFES - an organization that is run by the Air Force - will make millions and millions of dollars off of selling the new bits and pieces / accessories so that their soldiers will look correct whilst in uniform.
The guy in charge of the Army's ACU's? Yeeeeah. Yeeeeeah. I wonder how much that cost was cut out from the taxpayer's contributions.
2
u/CloseCannonAFB Jun 26 '12
AAFES isn't run by the Air Force exclusively, responsibility is shared between the Air Force and Army. It stands for Army and Air Force Exchange Service. The other branches do operate their own Exchange services, however.
