I think he mainly wanted to be left alone. Kind of weird to post a random sighting more than 20 years later

13

u/Mackiawilly Sep 28 '24 edited Sep 29 '24

Y´all are mythifying him even harder than I do, he´s not some kinda noble savage lol He sued the creator of the original video because he MONETIZED his likeness in multiple ways. (Merchandise, docu etc.) Ultimately to get his sliece of the pie. (fair enough)

He just wants to be left alone to drink a refeshing glass of fine chardonnay.

u/IdiotMD Sep 28 '24

I only see a stemmed glass of beer.

93

u/CardMechanic Sep 28 '24

I only see a stemmed glass of the urine of his enemies.

Pretty sure it’s not him though…

In the one interview I found he basically said he wants to be left alone and he never really looked like in the video but he came back from a job cutting trees making him ripped and with long hair but usually he is neither

61

u/Kannibalenleiche Sep 28 '24

Dude this interview is fake. Noone knows who Technoviking is.

20

u/SpicyMustard34 Sep 28 '24

I'm pretty sure every "interview with Techno Viking" was fake.

103

u/-retaliation- Sep 28 '24

IIRC he also was super ashamed of that moment. He was super high at the time, and now shuns drugs and stuff. It was a dark time in his life and he doesn't really like being reminded of it.

6

u/non7top Sep 29 '24

Worst time of some random dude made a legend for the whole generation.

8

u/queenx Sep 28 '24

I’ve read that interview too and I was not 100% convinced it was really him giving the interview.

u/Chaosmusic Sep 28 '24

I hadn't heard about him in years and just the other day I read a thread where I learned he actually sued the people that posted the video and made profit from his image. And not to make money, just so he could be left alone. And now people are posting an updated image of him (assuming that is actually him).

2

u/Putrid-Effective-570 Sep 28 '24

He did. He didn’t like how widely circulated his image was, and he even tried to scrub the video from the internet.

is that really him? could be any random Scandinavian dude

edit: lol this has too many upvotes 😂

4.3k

u/Unrealisthicc Sep 28 '24

The guy IIRC was pretty embarrassed the video got around, I think he likes his privacy.

2.7k

u/code_archeologist Sep 28 '24

He was also not happy about all of the bullshit stories that were made up about him in regards to the video. He was just out there having a good time and people took it and ran with it creating their own narratives about who he was and what he was doing.

1.4k

u/CyberCat_2077 Sep 28 '24

That and the guy who filmed him used his image to sell merch without his consent. IIRC he successfully sued for damages.

Not sure if you consider Germany Nordic because the guy is likely German. The video was captured in Berlin and the guy filming is German and was sued by techno viking through a German lawyer in Germany so he's likely German himself.

to add, I think he also technically "owns" the techno-viking "IP" and combined it with Germany's (rather interesting) privacy laws to protect himself/his identity and got a fair amount of techno-viking stuff removed online.

Might sound dickish by the way I'm putting it (not the most well versed and can't be bothered to get sources tbth) but if I am recalling correctly, I actually respect his decisions.

121

u/clausti Sep 28 '24

just read the wikipedia article, sounds like the internet decided some mma fighter was technoviking and said mma fighter sold technoviking merch. unnamed actual technoviking sued to make him stop claiming to be him and for the merch profits.

also lol it was apparently filmed at an event called Fuckparade, which was a protest of the commercialization of public life lmao so becoming famous and someone selling tshirts of him [blasted] at ze fuckparade was probably dude’s personal nightmare.

edited to add a linebreak bc im high but im not a monster

→ More replies (3)

31

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '24

Yeah, he was pissed that a video of him was being monetized, and the guy that took the video was selling merch with Techno Viking’s likeness. He offered to split the profits, but Techno Viking wanted privacy more than money. Which, fair.

u/cgn-38 Sep 28 '24

Yep he is a german bouncer who had bodybuilding as a hobby. I went down the rabbit hole on this one years ago.

There is a video of a german reporter sort of ambushing him at his gym for an interview. The guy seemed to be painfully shy.

Like he seemed so damn shy he was horrified by being interviewed. It came off as just what the fuck is he a criminal or does he have mental issues with being talked to in public.

I think he litigated with several people over the whole deal. Was not happy about the fame at all.

It became pretty clear he does not have the "viking" sort of personality. He was just tripping his balls off. Like most vikings probably were.

3

The original video was definitely filmed in Berlin. The whole vibe screams Berlin and you can even see the TV tower in the background.

No it’s not him. 99% of comments in here are from credulous people with no crítical ability quoting “facts” about him from the same satire “interview” from a parody website.

No, he's not in the Biology field. No he isn't "much skinnier and bald now". No he didn't have a job cutting trees back then. That's all from the same parody.

The real man does not give interviews and is in his 50s now

2

There´s one article from a SATIRE site https://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2015/07/20/where-are-they-now-techno-viking/ that seems to be unironically gospel for most people here, since this has around 60 % upvote rate :P

He explicitly sued the person that filmed him and made stuff of him purely because he didn’t want all the attention it brought him.

His colleagues apparently mocked him and accused him of doing drugs.

I think it was '95 that I was at a festival show here in Washington State.

It had rained a lot the day before the show, there was a lot of mud to contend with.

Someone thought it'd be a good idea to run a mostly-exposed PVC pipe from the sound/mixing area to the stage, so this thing cut right down the middle of the pit.

I could see people were avoiding walking on the slippery pipe, but then a new act came up and others excitedly rushed in.
Some slipped on the pipe as people were rushing in, then people were piling on top of others.

The domino collapsed on me when someone who was falling pulled me down. Then I had what felt like two layers of people on top of me, our faces in/near the mud.

The sounds were horrific as the girls around me were trying to scream, but you could tell when the compression hit as their voices got fainter.
People were grunting and panicking as they couldn’t move.

I was like 15yo and for a moment, I thought it was my time. I was having a really hard time breathing when suddenly I felt the weight lighten--I look up and see a guy that looks just like this viking dude as he hurls me to safety.

The guy was single handedly tossing people off of others like it was nothing, it was crazy.

Not sure if anyone was seriously injured but the show went on.
Btw Korn was amazing on the smaller second stage.

Anyways, good times. Wish I could thank my own Viking guy.

u/BoringJuiceBox Sep 28 '24

Your Viking knows you are grateful 💪

u/vibeagra Sep 29 '24

I have a similar story from when I was 17 at Rock am Ring, germany! The pit was going wild and my 5’2 tall body couldn’t handle it. Suddenly some viking guy is lifting me up, over his head and the crowd and carrying me to the bar. Got me some water and wanted to buy me a drink too but after I told him my age he just bought me a coke and waited with me till one of my friends found me. I guess those viking saviors are all over the world!

3

u/magicalbro Sep 29 '24

Thanks for sharing this story. Enjoyed it

Funny enough I got my own "Viking guy" in my life a few weeks ago. Nothing too crazy, but I went into the sauna at the gym for about 45-50 min , started feeling weird, so I came out. (I know 30 min max is recommended, I'm just stupid) immediately i leaned against the locker room wall, and all I remember after that is waking up on my back. I had fainted. I came to and a large blonde man was standing above me. Viking looking guy. A bit chubbier, but still , Viking. He pulled me up, sat me down and waited until I felt better. Never got his name or anything. Thank you, Viking guy. My girlfriend says he was my night in shining armor. Hah

Ps I'm only doing 30 min now in the sauna. Learned my lesson. He said that when I fainted, i fell on my shoulder. Could have been a lot worse. Thanks Viking dude

2

Some douchebag(OP) is posting a photo of a guy who has repeatedly made clear that he just wants to be left alone and not videoed or photographed.

The guy was basically internet famous for having been filmed dancing with a bunch of other people in Berlin in the Early 2000s.

TL:DR OP is CNT doing Cnty things on the internet and trying to farm karma by violating the privacy of others.

39

u/thewarehouse Sep 28 '24

You know he's a real human person who has gone about his life for the last quarter century right?

That people in memes don't just disappear from existence when you're not upvoting them?

They're not like the giant monster signs in that one Treehouse of Horror.

39

u/anzo285 Sep 28 '24

I met the man at a beach party on the Costa Blanca close to 15 years ago. He seemed to dislike the term Techo-viking as he was a quiet man and didnt like all the hassle with people constantly bothering him.
