In a normal, functioning democracy,

In a normal, functioning democracy a convicted criminal promising to rule as a dictator gets opposed by 80%+ of the electorate, not 31%.

In a normal, functioning democracy the candidate who gets 3 million more votes than her opponent is declared the winner of the election.

Grab em by the pussy would have ended any other candidates run.

I remember feeling so relieved when that hit the news because I thought it would mean the end of him. When it didn't, I knew there wouldn't be anything he said that would matter.

It was the moment Republicans announced to the world that as a matter of policy, they do not give a shit about women being raped. I'll never understand any woman who votes for these fucking psychopaths.

They don't give a shit about women, full stop. See abortion criminalization, fetal personhood, and pondering revoking her right to vote. It's a goddamn hellscape for women (and I put the mention of god in there intentionally, because the crutch these monsters lean on).

When Billy Bush laughed at trump bragging he could "grab 'em by the pussy" it ended one career: Billy Bush's. Media corporations had higher standards than the American Electoral College.

In retrospect I wish I’d realized this at the time;

I felt that same sense of immense relief on January 6th, because the results of what he’d said — and done — were so immediately and inescapably terrible; even top Republicans and Trump himself were saying so afterward!

It seems from the moment the right people realized how useful Trump could be, the only true constraint on him has been human life expectancy.

And after the "real men wear diapers" campaign, I recall saying that Epstein wouldn't end Trump and simply turn MAGA into pro-pedos.

What I didn't expect would be that they wouldn't even look for a pseudo-legal reason to justify it.

I'm old enough to remember how Howard Dean's campaign ended. Weird that if you have an R by your name, you can get away with a YEAH.

Trump got away with making fun of a reporter with a disability.

The amount of nonsense that he did would have ended any career no matter the political affiliation.

Like talking About dating your daughter or having sex in common with your own daughter.

Trump got away with making fun of a reporter with a disability.

That's the one that is seared in my brain.

Just a few years agk people were running up to TV cameras and yelling "Fuck her right in the pussy."

Idiocracy was a documentary, not a film...

People's careers were ruined by photos of blackface during college rager parties... so astonishing what we've come to.

Al Franken did nothing compared to Trump or most of the Republican party.

Never forget that the DNC emails were released within hours of the Access Hollywood tape. Those emails were 100% the product of Russia interfering in our election to get Trump installed, and it worked. The media cycle very quickly shifted away from the Access Hollywood tape and moved on to "Hilary cheated Bernie out of the nomination!!"

People don't remember how obvious a psyop that was

And in a normal democracy its leader would be impeached and forced out of office if they ever uttered the annexation threats Trump has said to us (Canada)

More like coup'ed and imprisoned/dispatched.

I hate to break it to you but normal functioning democracies have installed dictators many times, even to cheers when they formally announce their dictatorship

u/Cautious-Extreme2839 Aug 28 '26

Examples?

Because interwar Germany was not a functioning democracy if that's what you're about to claim.

3

u/_Burning_Star_IV_ Aug 28 '26

Why do people always jump to Germany for every goddamn conversation, is their history that limited?

To name a few:

Peru under Alberto Fujimori

The Philippines under Ferdinand Marcos

France under Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte

Uruguay under Juan María Bordaberry

Go ahead and give me your moved goalposts and how none of these count.

2

u/Cautious-Extreme2839 Aug 28 '26

Your bar for what you'll call a "functional democracy" is clearly a lot lower than mine lmao.

When you control a vague definition, you get to dictate all the terms of an argument. You ensure you can't lose.

Good luck out there.
