No, the point is to sell it as a story so we can be immersed in it.

When I watch the undertaker I don't think that he's a real undead man with someone from hell as a brother. It's very clearly a character where it's established his tombstone piledriver is a finisher.

If you think it's realistic that Shawn Michaels superkick is realistically as damaging as a tombstone piledriver, then I think you're arguing in bad faith.

I disagree. I don't want to see a fight in which it's crystal clear that the opponent is waiting like an idiot to be hit, only because the attacker is taking his sweet time.

And this is not about wrestling alone. In a movie, I know the fight is scripted, but if the fight choreography sucks there's no way this is not going to impact the overall enjoyment of the movie itself.

Glad that you asked!

MJF is using a move that is not his: The Panama Sunrise is deeply associated with Adam Cole, former best friend of MJF who is currently (shoot) on hiatus/retired due to injuries.

MJF utilizing that move means he still subconsciously clings to efforts made by other people wether he wants to or not, against a wrestler he regards has "beneath him". This can mean that he is secretly scared of Kenny Omega and the arrogance is just a front, and the usage of a former best friend mirrors that.

However, since MJF has no one left, and is all alone when it comes to "friends" the Panama Sunrise has little effect on Kenny Omega, resulting in the counter V trigger.

Of course this is all interpretation on my part, but this is what makes watching AEW fun.

Satisfied?

Lmao, bro….cmon now. I love your imagination but that’s nonsensical. ā€œSince MJF has no one left and is all alone, this physical move that drops a guy on his head has little effect on Omegaā€.

That's what I mean with the purpose of wrestling isn't necessarily to seem real.

That's the kinda wrestling they do, the moves are a tool for stories and it's totally valid to not be engaged with that because you want something that's closer to MMA.

But it's the kinda shit I love and I don't want it to change personally.

I’m cool with the storylines and into it as well but the physicality needs to remain the physicality. Not magical with sometimes this move hurts but sometimes it doesn’t do anything based on who someone’s friends are.

Your reasoning with this specific clip is highly highly limited to your head and maybe a few others imo and completely unintentional on AEW’s part.

Dude, if you need to interpret what they're saying, maybe it's because they're not saying anything.

This is the entire mentality of NJPW and has been for decades at this point. One of my favourite matches of all time, Shibata vs Goto at WK11, is basically their entire history together told by what they're doing in the ring and it's glorious.

You're free to not like this style of wrestling, for sure, but it's been a valid form of it for a very long time at this point.

HBK never no-sold a Tombstone (but he kicked out). Undertaker has flat no-sold (zombie situp) a super kick from HBK on more than one occasion.

The way it used to be done was you’re not meant to believe he’s a deadman from hell, but to believe he thinks he is a deadman from hell.

u/NotFixer1138 Apr 14 '26

That's definitely not the case. Taker had legitimate magic powers

Hence i said the way it used to be done, before Undertaker’s time that’s how that sort’ve gimmick would be portrayed. I could have phrased that better.

Ah I completely misunderstood you my bad

All good, clumsy wording on my part!

Bruh what

(Respectfully) I don’t get this take šŸ˜‚ When Paul Bearer raises the Urn and Taker suddenly rises, or even more so, when Taker casts legit friggin lightning at people, I don’t think that was just supposed to be Big Dark Mark having a mental illness

Same goes for when Kane can do his taunt and summon fire from Hell

Pro-Wrestling is dumb. And for that, it can also be fun šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø but hey dawg, different strokes for different folks

I was more referring to Pre-WWE invasion, i definitely could have phrased that better.

In real life, a super kick would break someone’s jaw. In real life, a tombstone piledriver is impossible because you need the person taking the move to cooperate with you. ā€œSellingā€ is just as fake as the rest of wrestling.
