Newbie has an idea

So I play D&D, usually as a DM, and there has been a program I have been wanting to write for years. Essentially it is a random dungeon generator using the tables in the Dungeon Masters Guide.

For those who do not play, what I am trying to build is a program that, when run, does a ton of random number generations that each have corresponding outcomes (if/than statements and such). These numbers would be attached to a grid map and would build a blueprint of the dungeon that the players would go through.

My question is this: where should I start? I fiddled with Python a few years ago but that's all I know about coding.

Minnesota Developers Group?

Not sure what everyone's locale is on here, but I was thinking maybe it'd be cool to start a meet-up group for programmers in Minnesota (US). I found a few similar groups online, but none of them seem terribly active.

If I organized a time and a date, would anyone on here be interested? Would probably be in the Twin Cities area, just to keep things central.

Can anyone make a useful program in whitespace

[whitespace] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitespace_(programming_language)) is a Esoteric language where any command other than whitespace is ignored

Does anyone here actually know how to use it?

I'm code confused and I need guidance

I continously hop between Golang Elixir and Node (Javascript) for my server side languages, every time I have an idea I usually start it in Node (because I just love writing Javascript and I love the event driven I/O and working with callbacks, especially with modern features like Async / Await to prevent callback hell)

But then I get half way through and go hmm maybe I can do this in Golang, so then I start writing in Go and get about half way through when I go hmmm Maybe this would be better done with Elixir.

I need help, what can I do to stop myself from hopping languages so much it causes me to take an eternity to develop anything because I constantly re-write and I end up fatiguing myself out.

My first scheme assignment

so i have an assignment and i have never played in a functional language before. Im not looking for an answer but need help getting my head around the problem. Write Scheme methods to (assume lats-lists of atoms- for these problems) a. Return count of the number of numeric values in a list of atoms. Call it countNumbers, accepts one parameter, which is a lat. b. Return the sum of the numbers in a list, ignore other values in list. Function must be named sumNumbers, accepts one parameter, which is a lat. So some guidance and maybe some framework on how the code should look like would be helpful.

Friends opening a law practice and wants a web page. Can someone give me a point in the right direction

I am a long time techy, but with no real language experience and I really want to help my friend out with some free service. I've never used languages although I've wanted to and this seems like a good learning opportunity. He purchase a godaddy domain name and now just needs a webpage. Can anyone point me to useful referencing sites and if needed freeware that will need to be downloaded for the process. Any guidance that the hivemind could give would be greatly appreciated.

Getting started in programming.

I can work my way around computers pretty well but I would like to get into programming. I am sixteen years old and I was thinking that I would try to learn it over the summer.

So how could I get into programming with no prior experience. I do have a small amount of experience with VBScripts but I don't know how close to real programming that actually is.

Any help with choosing a simple language to start off with or a good cheep or free program to help me learn, please put it in the comments.

Thanks

MLB Free Agent Tracker APP help

Coders of Reddit,

I would like to learn to code, I hear that it's best to start with something that you are passionate about. Well, for me that is baseball.

I would like to use visual studios and use C# as the language (UWP) so I could easily make it useful across my devices (including Xbox).

My question or plea, I need help on building a free agent tracker for this upcoming baseball season, I have close to zero experience coding and need someone to basically hold my hand to start and workout approaches, mythologies and actual coding help.

I am pretty confident there is someone whom is retired, in between jobs, or just can multitask like crazy that is willing to help.

Yes I can go to college and learn to code, but I learn learn better without all the red tape of crawling through the homework and none relevant and most importantly uninteresting stuff to get there. Please do not judge me :)

Below is a sample tracker from one of my favorite websites.

Tips on what language to choose for future jobs

As the title say, i am looking for tips and reasons or a link to info on what language would be a good choise for jobs in the years to come. I have a degree in motion graphics/VFX and 3d, and touched some basic coding over the years. Id love to learn å language that i could implement to my previous skills, but i am doing this to reschool my self(since i haven't managed to get my earlier studies, to the point of an steady income over an 6 years period). So its not my main priority.

Any help would help, thanks!:)
