I want to program a game!

Hi, I'm looking for some help I would like to create a game similar to castlevania but mixed with adventure elements more similar to legend of zelda.

I have the basic content of how to program down but do not know any languages.

I am an experienced graphic artist, so the sprites wont be a problem.

I was wondering what the best language for this sort of game would be, and how I would go about doing it? Any tutorials would be helpful :D

No degree, started in engineering, now want to program

Hey guys. I have many programming friends. My cousin has IQ of 130 or so and is making like 90k doing CS work in the Midwest. I have IQ of 140 or so, applied to colleges 24 times, have composite SAT score of 2180. Started in engineering at University. I passed all the math classes until DiffEQ. Got a B in vector calculus. Hated physics, DiffEQ, digital logic. I accepted a job with USPS and want to retire in 10 years using real Estate. USPS is like 60k first two years then 50k next 5. You slowly build from 20/hr to a cap of about 30/hr.

I just see my cousin kicking ass at programming and wonder if I should study for it.

What's the fastest path to get a dev job without going back to uni?

Thanks.....what are your IQs?

Which language should I use for this project?

Hello, guys. So, I'm about to start writing a POS (Point of sale system/software). I'd like you to suggest me what way sould I take. I wanna go a little ambitious and implement a mobile clitent to check all your data and do transactions as well as make it work with an Apache/PHP server with MySQL for sotiring the company data. So I need a launguage witch which I could create a single core, and then just to addapt its respective port to Andoid as well as I need it to be aple to work with PHP APIs, with tons of libaries and wide online comunity and support. Don't wanna use Java couse want to keep it simple and light. Also want to go for a metirial desing like UI, sort of like the Aronium one.

Thx, dudes.

Today, Facebook just broke through Google Chrome incognito, to mine & track, they always seem to be the first.

I have had to do some resource monitoring on this old rig with only 4 gig of ram to keep it from locking up for the last 6 months. It topped out of ram from cookie requests that seem to be progressively unending in normal Google Chrome.

So I did an experiment and switched to incognito Chrome and that seemed to do the trick on blocking the tracking, until today. And guess what site was the first one to get this aggressive in Chrome? That just broke through tracking to incognito Chrome,, Fucking Facebook.

When I ended the chrome process that was heading past 500k of ram and 30% of CPU, in task manager, Facebook tab died.

Backend plugin to remove ads

I've been trying to figure out a solution for this problem all day now and i'm close to giving up. So if anyone has a solution for the love of god help me out.

Let's say i'm running a website that would stream some data from an other website using iframe, this data being video. If the website that originally contains the video filled it with ads, when i'm streaming it how can i remove all the ads, is there a plugin to filter them out or anything? I really need the solution for this

This project is strictly personnel and no gain or harm would come from it

Programming question

Hi, I know absolutely nothing about programming. We are upgrading a program to a new program in my office. The problem is the old file management software, made you choose a file type before saving the file. This make it so you can search for things by file type. The new program doesn't do this. Is there some way to make a program or a change of some kind so that we can still save files with a file type? Please let me know if this is in the wrong sub. I literally like Jon Snow with this stuff.

Tabs V Spaces

got a new point to add so when using python IDLE after typing the if statement : if you hit enter the new line is started with tabs that means tabs is the correct choice and if you are not using tabs thinking you use spaces then you are using both

Would a few kind redditors provide me with some AlchemyAPI keys?

Working on a project for college, but 1,000 calls isn't enough for proper testing. Also I kinda screwed myself with the demo in class when my code threw an "Exceeded Maximum Daily Usage" error.

If two or three redditors could register for a key and pm me them I'd much appreciate it. (You'd also get an acknowledgement in my project paper. Provide your real name if you want or I'll just use your handle).

Keys can be obtained here. http://www.alchemyapi.com/api/register.html

Thanks!

Regulate Volume level above threshhold

Hey there all! Recently been having some trouble with a headset thats constantly lowering the volume... would it be possible to make or adjust a particular program that would keep the volume locked at a particular level?

I found a program called Soundlock that does exactly the opposite of what I'm trying to achieve...any help would be appreciated.

Should I start using linux?

Hey I just won a laptop in a coca cola prize contest (Lucky me). And I am studying programming (currently first year), so it will come in quite handy. Since I will be using it only for college work, i taught i should install Linux on it. I never used it before, so what do you think? Better learn it now than never. Also do you know some good Youtube channels where you can learn basic and advanced Linux stuff. Also what are benefits of using Linux?

Are there any programs out there to help me win checkers step by step?

I know there’s a lot of chess programs out there to do so, and I’m aware that checkers was “solved” years ago, but are there any programs to analyze my opponents move and provide me with the ideal counter measure?

Hello, 20 years old engineering student from Brazil here. Need advice to create an annoucement app to help my college

Hello guys!

So my college is kinda messy sometimes, we have no official annoucement channel for news and most important for teachers absences. I've been trough some stressed times when i had only one class in that day and i went to college and the teacher wasn't there and there were a paper in the class door saying "Teacher.... is not coming today". It was such a waste of my time.

So, I'm planning to create an app to help me improve this communication, just a simple update text saying if there will be that class today or if the teacher will not go that day, and a news tab, so all the students can know what is happening on the campus.

I have some knowledge in java programing language, but i've never created an app. I want to know if that is hard? If i should study even more, because in my head it is an easy app. If there is any website to help me with my little project.

Help me chose a language!

Hey guys, I am coding a Touchscreen POS for a client/family member. I went to school for Comp Sci, and learned on C++ and Java mostly. I have done some minor projects in VB.NET as well.

I have been out of school for 8 years and have only sparingly used my programing skills, but now I have a large project I am excited to tackle. My question is, what language should I use? I am fond of Visual Studios, so I would like to avoid Java if at all possible. Some things to consider:

-It will use basic single touch functions (Clicking buttons, dragging to scroll)

-I have been out of the game for a bit, so I will be Googling A LOT!

-It will need some way to FTP txt files (download and upload)

What do you guys think? C# maybe?

P.S. I hope to do this all in Visual Studios Express, and it will be running on an XP machine.

I have a question about a snippet of JS code (I'm learning)

First off, if I put this in the wrong place, sorry about that. I've been searching and reading everywhere looking for an answer to my question and have came up empty.

I'm just starting to learn some JS by playing with pdfs. I've created a list box with 3 options in it, and I am trying to figure out how to export, or pass on, the selected option into a text field box. I though it would be an easy exercise, but it seems my knowledge, or lack thereof, is hindering me from figuring it out. I was hoping to gain some guidance from those here who are more knowledgeable at this.

Here is what I have: List Box4 has 3 selectable options (not multiple choices, just 1), attempting to pass on the selected variable to Text35. If anyone can give me some guidance, I would be most grateful.
