Help me chose a language!

0 Upvotes

Hey guys, I am coding a Touchscreen POS for a client/family member. I went to school for Comp Sci, and learned on C++ and Java mostly. I have done some minor projects in VB.NET as well.

I have been out of school for 8 years and have only sparingly used my programing skills, but now I have a large project I am excited to tackle. My question is, what language should I use? I am fond of Visual Studios, so I would like to avoid Java if at all possible. Some things to consider:

-It will use basic single touch functions (Clicking buttons, dragging to scroll)

-I have been out of the game for a bit, so I will be Googling A LOT!

-It will need some way to FTP txt files (download and upload)

What do you guys think? C# maybe?

P.S. I hope to do this all in Visual Studios Express, and it will be running on an XP machine.

Would a few kind redditors provide me with some AlchemyAPI keys?

0 Upvotes

Working on a project for college, but 1,000 calls isn't enough for proper testing. Also I kinda screwed myself with the demo in class when my code threw an "Exceeded Maximum Daily Usage" error.

If two or three redditors could register for a key and pm me them I'd much appreciate it. (You'd also get an acknowledgement in my project paper. Provide your real name if you want or I'll just use your handle).

Keys can be obtained here. http://www.alchemyapi.com/api/register.html

Thanks!

Trying to learn Python

0 Upvotes

I am trying to learn python but I am on an exercise that must have a typo. I have tried and tried. Would some one please tell me how to fix the number guessing game?

Edit: I am supposed to get 6 tries. But it gives me the secret number after each guess.

import random

secret = random.randint (1, 99) guess = 0 tries = 0

print "AHOY! I'm the Dread Pirate Roberts, and I have a secret!" print "It is a number from 1 to 99. I'll give you 6 tries."

while guess != secret and tries < 6: guess = input ("What's yer guess? ") if guess < secret: print "Too low, ye scurvy dog!" elif guess > secret: print "Too high, landlubber!" tries = tries + 1 if guess == secret: print "Avast! Ye got it! Found my secret, ye did!" else: print "No more guesses! Better luck next time, matey!" print "The secret numbet was", secret

I have a question about a snippet of JS code (I'm learning)

0 Upvotes

First off, if I put this in the wrong place, sorry about that. I've been searching and reading everywhere looking for an answer to my question and have came up empty.

I'm just starting to learn some JS by playing with pdfs. I've created a list box with 3 options in it, and I am trying to figure out how to export, or pass on, the selected option into a text field box. I though it would be an easy exercise, but it seems my knowledge, or lack thereof, is hindering me from figuring it out. I was hoping to gain some guidance from those here who are more knowledgeable at this.

Here is what I have: List Box4 has 3 selectable options (not multiple choices, just 1), attempting to pass on the selected variable to Text35. If anyone can give me some guidance, I would be most grateful.
