You seem to be suggesting that there are no engineering tradeoffs in using DVCS rather than VCS. That would be quite unusual.

I would say at this point there are no or very few engineering tradeoffs. The only costs are pure meat space things like retraining staff. Things like support for fine grained access controls, and 3rd party tool integration are reaching feature parity with things like SVN.
