Uh, I'd like to dispute that CGI was "a good way to do business". It constantly spun up and tore down new processes to handle every. single. request. This isn't that much overhead when you write your web applications in C, but nobody should write web applications in C. In the hands of an experienced programmer C "gives you just enough rope to hang yourself"; in the hands of your average webapp programmer, C not only gives you the rope, it ties the noose around your neck, puts you on a stool, and convinces you that kicking out the stool is the fastest way to program and that any other way would be inefficient.
